I just got here earlier in life than You.!! A new Truck was about 400K for an average one. Batteries were same dimension as today, but 3 times heavier, same with the Tailgates.Cant remember what was made here back then apart from Toyo.:post-4641-1156693976:

The battery in my wife's Ford Focus lasted more than five years. Since the OEM battery lasted that long, I had Ford put in another just like it.

So I diconnected the battery and cleaned my posts and connectors as they were a bit dirty.

Reconnected the battery , charged it up .

This morning I put the key in the ignition turned it to position 1 and there were four loud clicks coming from the dashboard.

I turned the engine over , started up no problem , I have been out and about in it all day shopping here there and everywhere , on my way home it started clicking again , the same loud four clicks each time .

There is no pattern as to when it happens , no lights come on , all the functions are working .

Baffled.

On many cars, maybe most, the battery should never be disconnected. Some functions will need to reset by the dealer. The clicks you hear may be from the radio. If you want to change the battery or clean the terminals, you should use a 12 volt battery, a motorbike battery works well. and keep it connected to the cables. That way you lose no settings. On the Ford Focus, the cigarette lighter is always live, check it first with the ignition key off, so you could plug in an adapter connected to a 12 volt battery.

In the handbook for my vehicle , it states . " If battery is disconnected , upon re-connection the first 8 kilometres may exhibit unusual driving while the smart management system realigns itself with the engine ".

I have driven approx 150 kilms , so I don't think that was the problem , but you never know.

I tried to attach a screenshot , but for some reason it will not let me.

Handbook will spell out battery charging procedure for the ride.  My own ride it says disconnect the negative cable. The only thing l notice on re-connection is the one touch drivers side window switch takes a few minutes to activate.

That's why they connect a gadget thingy at top Battery Shops, it supplies power whilst they fit new battery.,thus retaining all data and settings..?

You more than likely know this but some may not. Hold Button down till window is fully open and continue to hold down for about 5 seconds. Then do same while is goes up it should reset to Auto.

On the new Revo and Fortuner all 4 windows are auto. Whether you do the same thing with all I don't know. But it does say that if you disconnect the battery or it goes flat, everything will go back to factory settings. Comp: & Sat/Nav will clear themselves. So if you have entered any favorites Go home ETC they will be lost and you will have to replace same. Bit of a pain if you have lots. That goes for the blue tooth phone No: & your phones that you have registered.
