First visit to Pattaya (Young couple), recommendations

Agree with the above poster. Anywhere in Thailand is better than Pattaya.
Rayong / Klaeng / Koh Samet not much further. Hua Hin? Never even been but I know it's nicer than filthy Pattaya. Or take a cheap flight to Krabi? Samui? You name it.

Hard to find a cheap flight on this coming or any long weekend...
Hua Hin, we have been there already. A bit far as well.
Other places south of Pattaya might consider. But then there the transport problem.
As another poster mentioned, using the Airport bus seems to be a cheap, fast and comfortable to get to a seaside town near Bangkok

Yes, thank you. It isn't.. /about swinging/

Understood! I was just suggesting meeting people from different cultures, because Pattaya is really good place for that. You don't really have to, of course, but it would probably be enjoyable, and something to remember for the rest of your life. But laying down on a beach and having some good Thai food afterwards is good too!

Don't listen to people saying go to Rayong or some other godforsaken place, they say avoid Pattaya. You will be so bored in all the Sri Rachas, Hua Hins, Rayongs etc. Pattaya is perfect - it is close to Bangkok, buses from Ekkamai run almost every 20min or so. Pattaya is super cheap, you wanted a room on the beach, you can have that at around 1100 baht, there's on Beach Rd, just walk a bit towards Walking St from Royal Garden, and they have huge sign with 1100 baht written on it, windows towards beach, yay! There are ton more hotels on Beach Rd, just walk and look on Beach Rd. But if you're really set at 600 baht per night, then you'll find hotels just off Beach Rd,m literally 1 min walk to the beach.

So, if I was you, I'd take the Skytrain to Ekkamai, take a bus to Pattaya, at bus station in Pattaya you see open trucks with seats  inside, we call them baht buses (or Songthaw, if you wish to sound sophisticated , and seasoned expat) , there are several of them waiting for passengers, you'll see them when you walk off bus.  They all ride to Pattaya, tp Beach Rd, so you can't go wrong, don't ask anything, get on it, and you'll see beach in about 4 minutes. When you see Hilton, a tall building right on the beach, push a button and get off. Now have coffee at Starbucks, or a Pepsi Max from 7-11, and then sit on a beach :)

Then look for hotel in that area, there are so many!

Seriously, come to Pattaya, it is great place!

Don't know if this will help as I haven't been to Pattaya in years.  But when I did go there I stayed at the Apex on 2nd road and if feeling flush the Mike Hotel which is near walking street, has a rooftop pool with a great view and steps from the beach.  In those days however I wouldn't even put a foot in the water.

You are a couple, so your not looking for sex! Your on a budget, so I would go to Bang Saen Beach. You will enjoy

Thai Culture with Thai's and not a bunch sex perverts. Bang Saen is 30 kilometers north of Pattaya. You can find a nice bungalow across from the beach for 400-800 baht per night. Enjoy!

It is just full of old sex perverts.  same same.  The only difference is that they are also some of the biggest hypocrites too and often married to each other

I went back and read the OP again to double check, I really don't think this poster is asking about swinging.

You won't be interested in Koh Samet then.

The OP specifically asked for a quiet weekend break on a nice beach. Last time I checked Pattaya offered neither quiet nor a nice beach. Not easy to find anything in his budget with a sea view there either.

As a Jomtien resident I know that most people who live here do NOT spend their days and nights in Pattaya. For those who do the Bahtbus costs 10B and takes about 10 minutes. I manage quite nicely with just going there two or three times a week, and only for long enough to eat, after which I come straight back to Jomtien.

Agreed. I'd say finding anything budget with a seaview is a non starter, unless one has a lot longer to look around. Plenty of places with seaview in their name though.

I would always say to any "couple" not to go to Pattaya anyway, for the obvious reasons.

Cha Am ( though I never went there ) and Hua Hin would be a better recommend IMO, and several possibilities for a sea view. Not too difficult to get to either, but if really want the beach, Samet or Chang would be the best options, though more than a 2 hour trip to get there, obviously.

If set on Pattaya though, it would be Jomptien at the quiet end for my recommend.

Hmmm. I think the "view" is supposed to be from the bedroom.

I used to stay at the Mike back in the day, but their lift from ground level is not working now so I will not stay there again.

Seriously??????? Sorry, but your post is like someone that hasn't been to Pattaya for years.

I get that you love Pattaya, but you need to give more accurate information.

The OP only wants a short break near a beach, which is what millions of people do in Hua Hin, Rayong etc.

Does anyone go to Sri Racha for the beach?

The buses from Ekamai go half hourly.

600 baht 1 minute off Beach Rd? Be hard to find that now. Most of the cheap places have been replaced by trendy hotels at way more than 600. Cheapest I found 2 months ago was Apex ( 600 ) and that's on Second Rd.

Pattaya hasn't been "super cheap" for years.

I never heard anyone call a baht bus in Pattaya a songtheaw. Elsewhere, yes, Pattaya no.

The ones at the bus station go where people want to go. They don't necessarily go to Beach Rd, and passengers DO have to tell the driver where they want to go and be told how much ( not much bargaining anymore ).

4 minutes!!!!!! With the traffic on North Rd that would only be at about 10 pm.

PRS hotel and spar. 3rd road near baht busses. If you're very tall, from the top floor antenna, you can see the top of the tourist busses on beach road.

B700 per night, swimming pool, sauna, steam , gym, lots of cheap Thai food and massage places. And, the massage place across the road is unique in that it has a sign in English on the door "No Sex". And it's true. emoji41.png

Sorry, but I looked on the map for that place and it's not near a regular baht bus route far as I can tell, which means it's going to cost way more than 10 baht to get anywhere and it's no where near the beach.

Hardly what the OP wanted.

For around 1000 ( worth it just for 2 nights ), one can get very near the beach on the baht bus route.

To the OP. If you get an hotel on Beach or Second Rd, the baht buses cost 10 baht in a straight line any distance. Anywhere off the fixed route you have to bargain the price.
