BANGKOK — Members of the junta-appointed reform committee said Tuesday that social media users need stricter identity verification methods to deter them from using it inappropriately.

Aimed at tightening the regulation of online platforms, the proposal approved by the National Reform Steering Committee on Monday upset internet users, after it suggested relevant agencies would ask Facebook to consider requiring ID Nos. to operate accounts.

Well actually it appears the loonies are getting loonier, not least the Thai junta who masquerade as a government.  That said I would fully support any  official body with the balls to ban FB user who post picture of food,   idiots kissing each other or basically anything that a Thai cares to post,  So whilst the Junta appears to be a bunch of undemocratic morons then if they can actually stop the crap that Thais post then good for them.

this kindergarten level

It has always been at kindergarten level. Example PM Prayut admonishing twerking dancers.

Infantile military people in charge of 60+ million people. What hope?

“The staff should collect information from the accounts they find have the potential to break the law in the future.”

A brave new world indeed, users will no doubt be sought out by the DFC  ( Department of Future Crimes) a specialist section of the TP (Thought Police).

Even if they do implement this, it will all be gone once a democratically elected government is in place. Freedom of expression is a fundamental of democracy. Hang on - I just googled what democracy means. Ignore my post.

How much longer will the Thai people put up with this sort of parnoid BS before they come together and rise up against this dictatorship.

It is becoming increasingly obvious we all need to have an exit strategy in place.

the army needs a single gateway. then they can control the internet how they want and not have to grovel to international companies to try to control their citizens. surprised that they have not thought of it before.

Welcome to 2017.

This move will swiftly be followed up by all TVF members being required to submit passport numbers before posting.

There is more to the new law. It's for all social media and TV would apply. All net users will be required to use their ID and registered SIM (if mobile) to access the net. So yes, this will impact everyone.

Years ago the UK tried restricting certain websites using an offensive word. The result was any business in Scunthorpe and even the council itself found themselves banned.

Yes what a load of "cupid stunts"
