Resolving Wild Monkeys Problems

 

 

Due to the problem of monkeys troubling people in Hua Hin, especially in the areas of Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, Khao Takiab Buddhist Temple and Hin Lek Fai Hill, the Hua Hin Municipality, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department and Department of Livestock Development will provide sterilisation for the monkeys and install containment cages in the areas concerned.

 

According to the Deputy Mayor of Hua Hin Ms. Bussaba Chokesuchart, 2,000 wild monkeys roaming around the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course and Hin Lek Fai Hill are stealing food from tourists and nearby restaurants as well as damaging local houses. The Hua Hin municipal office has erected signs in Thai and English with a message asking people not to give any food to the monkeys.

 

However, while some people follow the instruction, others still leave food, fruit and drink for monkeys resulting in them continuing to be a problem. As the Khao Takiab Buddhist Temple does not give anything to the monkeys, the animals are seen at hotels and restaurants nearby. Some of them have been found at the ferry pier.

Why not relocate them to a national park like Keang Krachan in the same province ?

Here around Cha-am the same problem,too many monkeys!!

Early in the morning the farmers try to chase them away using fire crackers

and then they go away to wait for people to feed them on the road.

They come into the chicken house and steal eggs!!

No fear of humans unless you carry a slingshot.

Feed them and mix the pil in with the food,job done.

On a positive note lately some Dusky Langur coming in the evening to eat flowers in the trees,they do not come down from the trees and seem very nice and peaceful.

I played the Royal golf course a few weeks ago and saw *1* monkey.  He ran away as we approached the green.

 

The monkeys are indeed an issue at the Khao Takiab temple, but it's because some locals *sell food* for tourists to give to the monkeys.  Stop selling food, stop giving food and the monkey population will reduce naturally.  In the short term, it's probably best to relocate a large number of monkeys to the wild somewhere.  Sterilization sounds good but it hasn't yet solved the soi dog problem and won't here either.

I remember a Middle eastern country trying that with feral pigeons. Trapped and shipped them to a remote oasis. They ate everything on the oasis and flew home a few days later.

Or, they can do what they used to do in China.  If there was a problem with an animal, like rats, the government ordered everyone to kill them.  Or, they could do like Florida does with alligators, open season until the population is under control.  Do people eat them?

People are the problem... not the monkeys.  It's because people feed them.

 

What is the point of sterilization for them?  They will still be there.. and people will still say they are a problem.

 

Either stop idiot people feeding them or capture them are relocate them to nature reserve or jungle / suitable habitat away from humans.
