Former ASEAN Sec-Gen stresses importance of foreign labor

BANGKOK, 6 July 2017 (NNT) – Former ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Surin Pitsuwan has suggested the government to keep in mind the significance of migrant workers to Thailand and consider amending the foreign labor law for higher efficiency.

In his remarks concerning the issue of migrant labor, Dr Surin pointed out that ASEAN has long been working to provide protection for all migrant workers within the region, ensuring that they are treated fairly and no human rights violations are committed against them.

Although foreign nationals, especially from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, are mostly employed for lower-class jobs, he noted that they indeed play a prominent role in driving the Thai economy.

Since the Thai government has decided to delay the effect of the Royal Decree on the Management of Foreign Workers 2017 for 180 days, Dr Surin encouraged responsible officials to spend this period looking for weak points of the new law and making improvements so as to ensure utmost transparency in the labor market.

Asean, just the body to sort the regions labour laws.

Another 50 year on...

Looks like Dr.Pitsuwan is on a charm offensive. Running for Governor, or dare i say it a prominent appointed political position.

", Dr Surin pointed out that ASEAN has long been working to provide protection for all migrant workers within the region, ensuring that they are treated fairly and no human rights violations are "

Is he so oblivious or is that the usual smoke and mirrors tactic?

Words fail me. Arrogant prick.
