Bacarra (Soi Cowboy) - face lift or full renovation?

The word on the streets are that Baccara has closed for good. It's being converted to a 7-Eleven as that soi is missing one. Soi Cowboy's been badly in need of a 7-eleven or Family Mart for a while. As we all know Thais need one every 50 metres or so.

Fantastic. But it will need to have a glass floor/ceiling and pantyless staff.

They're not removing the glass floor ceiling, just doing a new fitout for the 7-Eleven. You might be lucky and have some ladyboy customers from across the road from Cockatoo who still have their sausages in tack browsing the snacks & fridges upstairs while wearing their skirts. For them it's very convenient just being across the road.

Hmm yes a lot of guys lament wistfully about the past when these women had no chance to escape abject poverty other than to attach themselves to a stingy sexpat who reveled in how much he could get for the princely sum of 200 baht especially when measured against his home currency.

Thankfully, technology, mass tourism and globalization have stepped in and, while their working conditions haven't changed much since the so-called "good old days" you're talking about, at least they can get much more buck for their bang now.

More sexpats are being priced out and that's a great thing

So what would the girls do to earn enough money for their kid(s), parents, brother's education etc. if they didn't have this option? Even some girls with a college education go for the money. In Japan high school girls sell themselves to earn money for designer goodies. Only the girl can decide for herself what she does. As long she is not forced to do something who am I to judge?

 

There are many Thai guys who get their young gf pregnant then leave for the next girl. The girl has no education and a lot of responsibilities. Sad.

 

There are girls in the States who go that route. Not all want to go finish high school or go to college or work in an office or work for the low pay of McDonalds. Their choice.

I think he meant that nowadays the girls can command higher prices for their services than in the past and many, including Baccara girls, are beyond the pockets of many expats.

I like your interpretation. But happy that sexpats are priced out of the market seems a bit different.

I know plenty of expats with money who can well afford the Gogo's.  They have money because they are not stupid with it.  Most of the Gogo girls have Thai boyfriend's anyway and provide a minimal mechanical hurried experience. 

Gogo's are mostly filled with tourists or businessmen. Most expats know the smart money does not go there for a girl experience as there are many other venues with much better interactions, at 1/2 or 1/3 the cost.

It seems some may unfortunately be ignorant about this.

FYI, 30 and 40 years back even better, but circa 1976  only three bars:  Cowwboy's, Lorettas, and the one I forget the name of.

...and it was a lot longer too.
