problem with truevisions skipping channels

Featured Replies

I have a Truevisions package with a True set top box connected via cable to their nearest junction box 3 power poles up the street. About 50m.

When turning on my telly and scrolling through TV channels with the remote, very often it completely refuses to display the next channel up, or down. The 2nd channel up or down, loads and displays just fine.

It's completely random, and can happen when first starting the TV, or when we've been watching for a couple of hours. Suddenly this channel skipping thing occurs. Doesn't seem to matter whether the channels are even, or odd numbers.

For example, if we're watching channel 26, and scroll up to 27 ... it won't display, yet all the even numbered channels will work fine.

Same example if we're watching channel 31. All the odd number channels work, but none of the even number channels.

I'm thinking it's got to be in the set top box. Has anyone else experienced this problem ? Advice appreciated.

Could be a tricky problem to explain to Truevisions, so thought I'd give you TV tecchie experts a crack first.

Have you tried contacting True's customer service?

I have had similar problems.  If I try to scroll up or down it doesn't do anything bat then about 10 seconds later it scrolls trough a number of channels equal to the time the scroll button was depressed.

I thought that it was the remote but it seems that you can't buy one except from True and I live in the sticks.  I sent [email protected] an email and they sent a technician to the house and replaced both the remote and set top box, so I don't know which was causing it.  The new box worked fine for almost a year an now it is doing the same thing but I live with it.  I assume that True knows that there is a problem because they didn't come back with their normal "reset procedure" response.they just replaced everything.

Had a similar problem but i'm only sure with the second box as our first box ok but the remote was old & needed replacing since it was very difficult to change channels

Im also presuming that you may have upgrade to Platinum from Gold

They replaced the remote (for first box) & I'm sure if you open the battery compartment up you may see something like a plug in for a computer chip ( I think they may code the remote )

The second box seems ok now (don't use much in the B/R) but it was a few mths back when replaced remote down stairs

Thanks for your replies guys. I'll visit local True office tomorrow and they'll get someone to come have a look.

Wife has extreme issues with provided remote for internet TV box and invested in above - much larger key space and works fine for functions required (you learn them with remote).

When I thought that my remote was going bad, I bought one that was supposedly programmable.  Unfortunately it was smarter than the button pusher and ended up in the bin after my foot fell on it!

This type is learning rather than programmable - big difference.  Learning does not require codes that may or may not work with your equipment and you can combine several things into one (use volume for TV and channels for box as an example).
