Floodwater has washed away a small section of Huay Sai Khamin reservoir embankment in Sakon Nakhon, said Thongplew Kongchan, deputy director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department, on Saturday (July 29)

He said the damage has not affected the dam and is expected to be fixed within 20 days.

The damaged part is about four metres deep and 20 metres long out of a total length of 1,300 metres of the reservoir embankment.

He said that safety officials had already checked the damaged section of the embankment and found it still stable and could withstand the increased pressure of the water in the reservoir.

Maintenance equipment have already been sent to the reservoir on Saturday and repairs will start immediately and is expected to be completed in 20 days, said Mr Thongplew as he assured that the dam remains strong and stable.
