Chain link fence knowledge & contractors around Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

Would anyone here happen to know a contractor for installing chain link fencing? We're in Lamphun & it's tough finding anyone who even knows what it is out here.

Any knowledge of what chain link material one should use would be very helpful also. In the stores I see different kinds, with different prices, but the staff don't seem to be aware of what's different about them. I would assume we'd be better off using the most expensive material. ??? Looking at the 1.5 meter fencing if that's relevant.

Thanks!

You want hot dipped galvanized fencing.  Most of the stores that sell the fencing should also be able to arrange installation..

You can occasionally find chain link that  is significantly cheaper than usual, I have bought some in the past.

Firstly, the links weren't properly closed at the top and bottom, and this resulting in the bloody things constantly getting snagged on to each other. Very annoying and time consuming, especially if you're trying to unroll in a confined space. I suppose you could close the end links with pliers before starting.

Secondly, they have serious rust problems where they have been in  contact with the earth.

The main problem with making a chain link fence here is that you won't find the bits and pieces needed for diagonal struts, caps and so on.

On the whole I found it easier to build walls but only because I was doing it myself and have time. 140 metres so far, doing a bit every year.

I serious doubt that you will find properly installed chin link fence here, as in your picture.  All the poles should be hot dipped galvanized,  The top and bottom poles should be installed using the correct attaching fixtures, as in your picture and the fencing should be stretched and the ends terminated using 1" hot dipped bars attached to the poles with the proper fixtures.

All of the chain link that I have seen here has been welded, both the top and bottom poles to the vertical poles and the fabric  attached by welding.  This defeats the galvanizing at the weld points and invites rusting!!

I did an outer field chain link myself using 5'pre dast concrete posts dug in and concreted  to the hight of the chain link i bought relativley cheaply fron Thai wasadu.

The pre casts already have protruding steel for fixing chain to them. It works well for the field keeps dogs cats and other odds and sods out. I would have used it around the house but wall was already built by then.

As a foot note you cant see it now as its more like a hedgerow with climbers and other plants and a few weeds all over it.

I found a guy that will do it (a gate builder). I'd do it myself but there's a bit of urgency involved. Our dog's been on a rope since we've moved in & she's pissed;-) It's the last side of the lot that has nothing up yet & privacy isn't really an issue over there. I suppose I can primer the welds really good to prevent, or slow down any rust.

@ Cooked; I'm curious how you're doing your wall. Is it the standard footing, block, pour the columns with the cap on the block & stucco style? Do ya do a long stretch & slowly work your way up, or maybe 3 or so meters section at a time? We have a lot of crap wall I'd like to tear out & replace here and there over time. I was considering doing something with Q-cons, possibly.
