By The Nation

NONG KHAI: -- A woman was killed by a Nong Khai-Bangkok passenger train while walking home in Nong Khai’s Srakrai district on Sunday evening.

Police said the accident happened at about 6.30pm in Ban None Thong Chai village in tambon Srakai, Srakrai district.

The woman was identified as Rassamee Sinthu, 42.

Witnesses told police that Rassamee drank with friends before she walked along the railway track to go home.

The train driver said he turned on the train’s horn but she did not get out of the way.

Trains are called silent killers as you don't hear them approaching.  But a horn that's different. Almost got killed myself walking on a track. No sooner I step off the track a train wizzed by. I didn't hear a thing. Scared the heck out of me.

That's why the authorities make it an offense to trespass on railway.  Have you ever had to go out and remove a body that has been hit by a train.  I have on a number of occasions and I can tell you it;s not a pretty sight.  Even today, I can still see the past but fortunately it has not given me any lasting nightmares. :wai:

Surely he would have tried to stop the train !! After all trains here dont go very fast.

Ahhhhh the train tracks are for trains no matter how fast or slow they go, Why the heck was a pedestrian walking on them?

Maybe she liked a horn or two and didn't want to get out of its way?

I have been on a train ride that first hit a moose and we stopped for a few minutes to

clear it from the front. Then the next day we hear the horn blow and breaks go on and we

hit a man who was walking on the tracks. Later we found out that he was depressed and

this was his way out. We got a new driver for the train at the next stop. I have taken several

train rides in both Canada and Thailand since and have been lucky not to have had the train

stop for hitting something. RIP to the poor lady who made a bad decision to walk on the tracks

as it should always be considered as train time.

Geezer
