Where’s All the Dodgy Low-Budget Tourists Gone?
I must admit I had no problems with low season in past years (2004-2010). I went to Thailand in between jobs and never really planned the time I went there except a few times I did target the USA winter time. Thanksgiving and Christmas in warm Thailand really was pleasant. Remember all the girls dressing in red? In Pattaya you could actually easily cross beach road without getting run over. Soi Bukhao was peaceful. Soi Yume was barely paved! High season was nice also as it was a break from the cold winter weather if I had just finished working in a cold state here in the USA. Low season and hot was fine with me. Hotel pool, used to be able to swim in Jomtien beach water without getting sick. Too much runoff there now the last decade or so. -

Yes I am aware of all the long term stay options. I am now 68! Been going there since I was 47 and was so planning on doing the Non O once I hit 50. Then the US embassy stopped the Income affidavit letters. Such a shame as that was so convenient. That made it a pain to put money on deposit there or transfer money monthly especially if I was not going to be in country much. I almost bought the Elite Visa as I can afford it and it is somewhat of a convenient device but they changed that now and raised the price. Not sure how long I will be staying or coming or going. Most likely I will just do the 60 day visa exempt on arrival and do a 30 day extension. Do that twice a year with a gap in between. Then I will see how things go.- 1

Thanks for this quick reply! But what is it in their food (Thai and/or Isan food) that causes these problems? Would you know? I keep telling my wife to eat of the cereals I prepare myself in the morning. Sometimes she does, most of the time she reverts to Thai-Isan food. NB 1: the cereals I prepare myself with rolled oats (no sugar added), mixed with whatever nuts and dried fruits I can find. When I can, I include dried prunes (known to be a good laxative). I believe that's excellent food in the morning, and with that in the belly I can easily go until the afternoon! NB 2: I hear of several people in her village having cancer... -

The crap she eats will eventually give her colon cancer. In any other normal country the symptoms would be a tell tale sign to stop doing what harms you. But not in Thailand. My wife's friend had some cleaning staff who did not poo almost 1 month. They also thought it was normal and never told anyone about it. They died in the hospital. -
