A 22-year-old man, who has been arrested for allegedly breaking into some 30 unoccupied homes in Udon Thani's Muang district between April and this month, reportedly confessed that he committed the crimes to support his love for going out clubbing.

Burglar suspect Poonsap Khotsuwan was arrested on Friday afternoon after he allegedly broke into a house in the Suk Kasem Housing Estate in Tambon Na Nong Kham when the owner, Sujitra Khan-asa, was out, said Udon Thani deputy police chief Pol Colonel Chawit Srichan.

Witnesses said a man aged 20-25 arrived on a motorcycle and took a television and a refrigerator from the house. He then hired a tricycle to move them to a pawnshop near the clock tower intersection. Police investigating the case went to the area and found Poonsap at a pawnshop.

He was presented at a police press conference on Monday along with stolen items including televisions, washing machines, fridges and mobile phones.

Police said Poonsap, who worked odd jobs, was only released from jail earlier this year after serving 18 months for stealing water meters.

Poonsap said he stole from about 30 houses, which were either for sale or whose owners were not home. He would pretend to be the homeowner who was taking his possessions to a pawnshop. If he found a safe box, he would hide it in a nearby wooded area to later pry it open to look for valuables.

Police also secured search warrants to retrieve stolen items from various pawnshops as evidence. Chawit said police would press charges against the pawnshop owners of obtaining stolen items and seek to have their licences revoked. So far, six homeowners have filed complaints against Poonsap.

Do these people ever consider doing some WORK to earn money ?

Working would interfere with his clubbing time.
