Earliest a Driving License can be Renewed

Featured Replies

Hi,

Anybody know when the earliest you can renew the temporary 2-year driving licenses, they first give you when you convert a license from back home, into the standard 5 year license. I need to get an International Driving Permit, but understand they won't give you one on the temporary license. Problem is, I have 6 months left on my temp license. Could I renew this already?

Thanks.

I would say ask the DLT office where you got your 2 year DL.

Surely to early.

Three months in advance is what I know.

Just an update on this, if anyone’s interested in the future. I took my 2 year temporary license into the office at Chatuchak and they were happy to renew it to the 5 year License. So, not sure exactly how long in advance you can renew, but 6 months is fine.

Last week, the DLT told me 3 months before.

At the Chatuchak office? And were you on a 2 year temporary license, or already on a full 5 year license?

Full license. DLT in Chachoengsao.

Might be either the type of license, or location. Not sure. Nobody questioned mine though. Everyone I spoke to at the DLT, at each point, was happy to process it and didn’t say anything .
