Chiang Mai municipality shifts from black to clear garbage bags to prevent concealment of explosives

The Chiang Mai municipality is altering all garbage bags from black bags to clear bags in order to prevent the concealment of explosives.

The mayor of Chiang Mai, Mr. Boonlert BoranuPakorn (บุญเลิศ บุรณุปกรณ), has instructed officials to distribute clear garbage bags to market vendors in the Muang Mai Market to alleviate concerns over future bombing incidents similar to the Bangkok bombings. Mr. Boonlert said that bags were easily monitored, while affirming that security in the province is adequate ensuring the safety of local residents. 100,000 clear garbage bags would be distributed before the province completely shifts form black bags to clear bags.

Meanwhile, more than 400 patrol officers have been assigned to 24 hour duty to ensure security. Mr. Boonlert affirmed that Children Day activities would still be held in Chiang Mai. The Chiang Mai mayor requested the cooperation of citizens in keeping the peace.

To me, this sounds like news meant for the masses, rather than any trash collectors... Using clear bags isn't going to make much of anything visible, unless it's the only thing in the bags...

Haad Yai has been using clear bags for some time now. And no bins left out
