Buying coffee beans in Pattaya?

I can't find coffee beans anywhere. Are there no ships selling coffee beans? Where can good coffee beans be found?

(I have seen beans for sale at Starbucks, but at cray prices).

Friendship has many blends of beans and a grinder.

 

Makro and other supermarkets also sell whole beans, but generally dont have grinders.

 

Benjamit (Soi Buakow market near TukCom and Friendship) roasts and sells whole beans, and will grind them too. They are a much more specialised shop.

Actually coffee beans are everywhere, in any supermarket so surprised you have not seen them .

As mentioned, Benjamit roasts and sells beans. They are the only place in Pattaya that I know of where you can buy beans with a marked roasting date.

Makro sells beans in 500g packages.

One is a Robusta mix for 140 or so, the other is 100% Arabica for about 250 which is a good price.

I have not yet tried the Arabica but when I am out of stock of coffee brought by visitors I will give it a try.

 

Finding a coffee grinder should not be rocket science in Pattaya.

Otherwise it can be ordered online from a Thai shop.

There are a few places selling coffee beans.  You can find a limited supply of Starbucks beans to grind but no kidding good beans to grind for a cup.

Benjamit is the place then. I imagine that you could get them on the day they are roasted as they probably know in advance when they are going to do it.

There are a few places selling coffee beans.  You can find a limited supply of Starbucks beans to grind but no kidding good beans to grind for a cup.

I have found no place in Thailand that has good coffee beans.  Singapore has a few coffee shops that import beans from Indonesia and roasts on site.  If someone knows a good shop please post.  With all the nice restaurants in Thailand there has to be a good bean shop.

As mentioned, Frienship Supermarket on South Pattaya Rd, up from Tuckom. Have a large range of coffee beans and you can grind them to your requirements. I buy them there all the time.  Only place i know.

Actually its not all about choosing the right beans but also how you brew your coffee.  I've had an espresso machine at home for 5 years and it's still working fine , but the cleaning is very important to avoid any bitterness and off taste  .  

 

I have experimented with many different kind of Thai Arabica beans and Benjamit will not dissapoint you. I am not so impressed with Bon Cafe beans, not the best beans available in Thailand.

As others have posted, Benjamit is the place to go for coffee beans. It is located on the soi parallel to and across from Friendship Market. Open in the mornings to early afternoon. They have a variety of beans from 140 Baht and up.

I have also been looking for any type of reasonably priced decent coffee beans here, or even ground coffee without success. The best prices I have seen here seem to be around 1 baht per gram, which is insane for a coffee producing country. Why there are no market stalls selling coffee beans like rice, i don't know.

 

For reference, in Canada, we are normally paying the equivalent of 0.3 baht per gram for a good imported Columbian. Amazingly, I can buy .9 kg bags of the Fair Trade marketed 'Doi Chaang' coffee beans from Thailand imported into Canada for 0.7 baht per gram on the other side of the world at home.

 

On Tuesday, Benjamit's best price was 200 baht for 250 grams of fresh roasted Arabica coffee beans. Friendship was about double that. Tesco Lotus was not a viable option, but I have not been to Makro yet.

Many prices in Thailand are much higher than they should be, even for locally-produced items. It is not a cheap country for shopping of any type.

I buy all my coffee mail order from Phil's Coffee artisan roaster in Bangkok. Always had excellent service.

I have been buying beans from Benjamit for two yrs now, last time was two days ago.  They have a medium and a darker roast for 140 baht per 250 grams,  plus if you buy them in half kilo bags they give a 10% discount, so 126 baht per 250g.  I buy a kilo at a time for exactly 504 baht. 

 

They also have at least 4 kinds of imported beans from around the globe.  Keep in mind there is really high import tax on coffee, similar to wine, so the foreign stuff costs an arm and a leg.  There is no getting around that.  As far as I am concerned, Benjamit is as good or better than the roasters back home.  They clearly have a lot of experience and passion for what they do.

I used to get them at Friendship or BigC-X, they had beans in with the ground coffee and I think they were Bon Cafe brand. It has been a while as my machine broke and I when I saw the price of a good new one my freshly ground coffee morning fix came to an end.

Two things that destroy roasted beans: air and light. Friendship's beans are on display in transparent non-airtight containers with no reference to roasting date. Don't care if they were 1/4 of the price of Benjamit, wouldn't touch them!
