I love Pattaya and the Tough Grandads deserve respect. Such men compared to generation pantywasteofspace and back packers, at al. But this geezer did seem a bit out of order!

Reckon 500 baht fine for the Thai guy,  reduced to 250 for not

running away after the punch.

1.4 million baht Fine for the Oz guy

for tarnishing the good name of Pattaya.

100.000 Fine for carrying a machete.

50,000      Fine for scaring the school kids.

Think that is about the going rate for road rage in Thailand.

Plus a medal for the great police man in the clip

Have you ever been here?

You really don't get it, do you? Or you do and you are just trolling?

But to be fair, the police would likely do nothing if it was a Thai guy instead of Farang.

Maybe you don't want Thai police to act professionally, but I do.

Your replies are puzzling. Maybe it benefits you this way? Who knows....

Agree, both should be arrested for acts of violence, who provoked who should not matter in a court law. The law in Thailand is mainly carried out the police, so is a simplistic tit for tat justice.

The western get what he deserved!  they can smash my car how much they want, I have insurance take care of that,

I would never use a machete, for a small thing like that.

Looks like Thailand is still a dangerous place for Australians. I am happy Canadian who lived in peace with the Thais for 30 years and learned to speak fluent Thai in my early years much to the displeasure of my then Thai wife, Farang loo mahk mai dee.

What a weird attitude. To get by in Thailand you NEED to speak Thai. Otherwise you can't even order something off a menu at a restaurant and are stuck at expensive/tourist oriented places with bilingual menus. I speak fluent Thai too and everyone I meet is either indifferent to this (they expect it) or are delighted.

Have you seen the video of what the farang did previously, attacked the thai guy and family with a machete, then ran him over. I would have done the same.

What was the legal justification for the guy belting him was he was speaking to policem?  He definitely wasnt being threatened or acting in self defence.  There was no justification for it.  He acted like and animal and became judge and jury, the police were there and he shouldnt have intervened to dish out his own punishment.  He is guilty of an unprovoked assault at that specific time

That's true. Glad I saw the previous clip of the farang before the whole act "you tried to kill me!" which I just thought was an exaggerated response to garner sympathy from the public (and/or his English skills aren't good enough to express his thoughts more clearly). Although it now puts things into perspective, he still shouldn't have punched the guy in the face afterwards, that reaction was a bit extreme and certainly doesn't help things.

Nonsense. I can eat 30 baht noodles in air-conditioned malls just as thais do.
You NEED to speak Thai if married and living out in the bush but most of us have no interest pretending to be thai and living amongst thais only.

Thais can only fight the elderly farangs when they're not looking. That thai's temper will eventually cause him his own due problems.

You cant see the absolute bias of some people ? Defend the westerner no matter what and condemn the Thais no matter what ?

A farang has just committed an horrific assault, attacked a Thai family, including a baby, with a machete. Smashed the guys car windows, cut the Thai guys arms, then ran him over with his car.

And its calls for the arrest of the Thai guy.

Yes the Thai guy then committed assault (in anger) and should be punished., do you blame him, his family was just attacked with a machete.

Granted, the policeman should have been more proactive.

I suppose my response is because people are still trying, in the light of overwhelming evidence, to defend the westerner and turn this into a thai bashing exercise.

And... dropped by a girly punch. That big ring the guy's wearing is the only reason it drew blood. Guess he thought he was safe because the police were right there but let that be a lesson... Always expect the unexpected.

I wouldn't cal that a girly punch

Anyone that takes a machete on a school run.

needs to leave.  not got any sympathy for the guy yet.

Does anyone know what exactly started it

Why did the Thai guys car stop in front of the Oz guy.

causing the Oz guy to get out and get the machete  out the back of the car ?

Exactly still not clear as that all it shows

Yes.i see two groups here so often.

1. Farang who speak Thai or at least attempt to learn.

2. Farang who say  they "dont need to learn". Make excuses but really it is the attitude that its beneath them to try, because they are all inferior anyway.

Funny one group have no trouble at all but the other always moaning and in the sheit like this one

I am scared of all the BS, and nonsense comments as usual on this forum. How can anybody take any part or side here. Nobody know who started it! There is an arse, and there is one. He is an arse, he do this wrong. Boring! Grow up guys. Your acting like 5 year olds.

Nonsense. You NEED to speak Thai if you want to have any meaningful interaction with the 99% of people around us who are Thai. Go to an air-conditioned mall and try to order a bowl of noodles when there's no English menu around. OK, you can always point but how long does one want to live like that?

So what you are saying is you don't want to have Thai friends and only hang around other whities at the pub. And please don't try to speak on behalf of other expats - the fact I don't need my wife to do simple things like get a tyre puncture fixed, order food at the local restaurant, understand and ask questions at any shop/any employee I encounter, make small talk with people is liberating.

Wait and see what the Aussie media does with this video clip. Say goodbye to Aussie tourists this season. Well done Thai ambassador with one punch; no brains  you are filmed!

Not really. He has some money. He has some friends. He understands the Thai cops don't intervene. He understands cops are just there to make money for the higher-ups. He understands farang pensioners (particularly aggressive ones) have no status or standing. Even a motorcycle taxi driver could get away with this and would know it. No need to be " a very high so Thai".

10 years and never had to rely on fluent thai not even once. Yes I only socialise with like minded people being westerners, live in bangkok among westerners. Absolutely I can speak on behalf of most expats that it is hard wired in our DNA to be around like minded people

Those farang that are socially awkward disappear into the jungle or those that were conned into building a house on daddy's land. Yes you damn well better know your thai especially so you can eves drop on your extended family when they are discussing the best way to remove you LOL

Which a$$hole ? the Thai guy has (defensive) cuts on his arms from the earlier machete incident.

And if so (I doubt it) - that incident was over. No reason to floor that man. No self defense

Bad day for the aussie bloke. Gets knocked out and worse the world gets to see him running around with a machete, running people over with his car. The actions of a madman. It will play on youtube for years.

After this cowardly vicious attack the brainless Thai should have been  in handcuffs. Gutless and biased police.

Just have to love it proof beyond reasonable doubt the farang got what he deserved but you will defend the guilty Bastard to the bitter end. 555555t
