When you let them arrive and stay in the first place this is what you can expect from many from Countries like that. This Visa issue which can easily be prevented. China, Taiwan and other stricter countries don't have these problems.

i find it amusing that people are taking umbrage to this article, especially given this has been a long established problem on sukhumvit and most topics usually derided the thai police for not taking action for so visible an issue.

Well have you ever thought the reason could be the white poms do not give them a basic job to make a basic living so have no alternative to feed their family but to commit a crime. Quite frankly I do not give two hoots for political correction and this has nothing to do with it. It has nothing to do with color of skin. If it was Chinese, we would say Chinese. But its not. Its Africans.   The fact is, myself and my friends often walk in Asoke and down to Sukhumvit to Soi 5. Many of my friends live in that area. The whole way down we encounter groups and single African guys  plying their evil trade.  Their Thai wives do not like walking there at night. They guys are in the sub Soi's, along the road, outside hotels. This is early evening too.  They were openly doing it with no respect or regard for the law,  in front of old people, children, tourists and anyone who walked by. In the last 5-8 years the place has become infested with them and they need to be weeded out and arrested. Anyone who knows Bangkok well and lived in the city for any length of time, will say the same. Well done to the Thai police. I hope they get rid of every one of them.

I hear so much bashing of Thai police and sometimes maybe its warranted. But they have done a positive thing here.

What do you mean they've started ? The black street close to Nana Plaza have been very active for at least ten years. Around that area there are hundreds of west-africans selling all kind of drugs, mostly heroin, cocain and meth. It's so obvious what they are doing so I guess a lot of money goes to the police retirement fund. Also check out how many black girls are "waiting for the bus" all night in that area

No they haven't. They have done a cosmetic action which will have no effect, even for a day.

 

 The fact that these "tourists" have been allowed to openly sell drugs on the street for at least the last five years with no consequences means the police are being paid off.

 

I live in this area and often pass  the same African guys in the morning and at night hanging around the same corner. What tourist sits on a wall for eight hours randomly accosting passers-by in full view, including of occasional police on motor bikes?

 

Admittedly the pay-offs are not as blatant as the ones from the stall-holders - I once saw a policeman on a motor bike stop briefly, hold out his hand without a word and receive a wad of notes from one of those DVD stall runners, then drive off!

While you are probably a good man, does it not disturb you that this crackdown includes yourself? Do you mind being pulled by the police and searched/questioned for no reason other than skin colour?

As soon as you have cleaned them out head to Aus and do the same, will have a much harder task as they are protected by the lefty courts.

Not what I claim, but quoting the UK government statistics. On the other stuff, I have been poor and did not resort to crime and frankly not a requirement to do so to survive in a Western welfare society.

 

Regards the African nationals committing crime in Thailand, would assume they would have a history of criminality elsewhere.
