Any Decent Bookstores in Chinatown?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any bookstores in Bangkok's Chinatown? I googled but didn't see any, I am not looking for large commercial bookstores but preferably more locally owned ones and out of prints would be alright also. I am looking for a Chinese Herbal Cookbook for a friend. I have seen one on Amazon but I would prefer to just visit there and look around if I get any recommendations  and hopefully find an old gem of a book or a truly authentic locally written book. I am aware of most of the other used bookstores in Bangkok and other places like Chatuchak weekend market but would really like to find something in Chinatown if at all possible. Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

Kinokuniya's best in Thailand. Most languages. Good store at Siam Paragon. Chinatwon does food, gold & special "tea shops" but you have to speak Thai or Chinese to get the "sugar.

There used to a s/h book shop on KhaoSan Rd.

I recommend Kinokuniya (Siam Paragon); although, I think they have a store at EmQuartier and Central World.  They have a great selection and the prices are 15% cheaper than the same books that I've priced at Asia Books.  I used to shop at Asia Books and was a member to receive discount. Kinokuniya was cheaper at full price. Also after being customer at same Asia books for a very long time, I accidentally purchased a book I already owned. They have started covering their books in plastic, so didn't I discovered it until I read the first page at home. They would not let me return it even though it was obviously never 'used'.

1.Kinokun in Siam-Paragon also has a large Chinese section, in fact larger as one might expect in CT itself. From what I recall mostly HKG/taiwan/SIN and not much mainland Chinese. Thai-Chinese who do read and value boox wont be too tempted to go CT for that.

For tipical medical boox also the uni's and the Chinese hospital Huay Chiew.

2.If at all-and that was years ago (as you may have noted, many long-standing bookshops have closed-also many in the banglamphu/KSR area), ''book''shops in/near CT (think  more of along New road=Sidesois) are copycats of tipical Thai shops: comix, strips, some guidebooks and lots of childrens ABC-and thats it.
