Tent Camping in Ubon

Do you have any suggestions on a good place to go tent camping in Ubon? Is there anywhere close to the city along the Mun River? I used to go up to Chanadai Cliff but no longer have the vehicle to make it up there. Any other cliff spots over there that's open for camping?

I have never been camping in the Ubon area, but I had a fantastic experience in Khao Yai National Park, where we stayed in tents ten years ago. The monkeys and deers came to the tents to say hello, we woke up at sunrise in a perfect temperature in January/February. No snakes or other dangerous animals, but a fantastic wildlife. I would prefer that to the nice resorts outside the park anytime !

I would suggest that you try to find some transportation to Pha Taem from Ubon. Good luck

Yep! Could never convince my Ex Thai-Wife to go camping. "Too dangerous, people will visit during nighttime, asking for your money." Very few "controlled" camp sites in Thailand.
Thailand is simply not "Camper-Country". Haven't seen any Farangs cruising around in a Motor-Home, stopping somewhere in the sticks for the night. Thai Wifes/GF would not allow it. They know why.

Even European Backpackers with little money in their pockets prefer the relative safety of Guest-Houses. They know why.

Not saying that camping in the sticks is more dangerous than walking on Baech Road in Pattaya at 3 AM, wearing plenty of Gold around the neck and engaging in a lively conversation with a bunch of friendly Ladyboys.
It's all relative, depends on what kind of "adventure-tourism" one wants to experience. Thailand accommodates all kinds of "adventure-tourism". Wild-Camping in the sticks of Thailand would be very low on my list.
Cheers.

we just had a camp south of Ubon R on the cambodian border. We were happy to be the only ones there at 1pm. But then the cars started rolling in at 6pm. Groups of youngsters drinking piss and playing guitar. I told them to shut up once or twice. Got to sleep 2am. Nightmare in the morning as well. so much noise.

We usually wait until the forecast shows cool nights sometime Nov-Jan. I freeze my tail off up on Chanadai Cliff. Not sure how it's dangerous really.

What day of the week did you go? We always go on a Sunday-Thursday night.
