Robski Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I'm coming up to Isaan next month with Mrs Robski to meet the family and have a good scout around, I want a good (clean, friendly, relaxing) guesthouse for a month or so as a base for us. Any sugestions on this as well as any good ideas for an Isaan newbie much appreciated.

LoveDaBlues Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 The City Lodge cut me a deal of 12,000 baht for a 1 month stay. The rooms are very nice and large (only 10 rooms total). A really good breakfast is included. Maid service every day. Top Mansion is okay but I would spend a little more and stay at City Lodge.
Kaoboi Bebobp Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 (edited) I've stayed at both City Lodge (seriously good food) and Top Mansion (good and cheap, with maybe 50 or so rooms). City Lodge: great people run the small place. Locals told me Chef Andy has best kichen in town. I believe it. But it's only a five-minute walk from Top Mansion. I found any noise reaches you easily because of the tunnel like hallways that spiral upward from the side stair, of the bar-restaurant. The rooms start at 600, price went up in the fall. Nice big king sized bed. Spacious washroom and shower. And like I said, great staff. One other possible shortcoming is there's no night desk. There's a nightwatchman who was always asleep outside the stairway. Top Mansion: modern, new hotel on soi Sampun. Rooms are 310 bt and 450. Small discount for weekly and monthly stays. But really, for 310 bt, how could you complain. All conveniences, but neat thing is balcony with clothes rack. Good size room, fridge, big bed, etc. Tile floors, which I like. BTW,nothing in fridge, except free water. Anything you want, like Coke or soda, or beer you buy downstairs (24 hr serice) and put in your fridge. I found the cleaner of my room was not so thorough. But I just "complained." Both good places and a few minutes walk from Robinson and shopping complex and great cofffee shops. But these are not gueshouses, if that's what you really want. Can't help you there. Sorry. Edited January 15, 2007 by Kaoboi Bebobp
Asia4ever Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 The Jan Condotel is an excellent place to stay if you don't mind being away from the town center. It's just south of Nong Prajak Park/Lake. Was built one year ago, has all normal amenities plus a balcony with a sink, and free in-room WiFi Internet access. They have monthly rates. The owner is a devout Buddhist who one of the kindest people I have met in a long time. I think breakfast is 80 BHT. They do laundry on their premises and it is very inexpensive. Tel: 042329223.
Robski Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 Thanks for all the info and keep it coming, we're going in three weeks at the beginning of February.

Sorry, need to make a correction: Rooms have free LAN Internet port, not WiFi.
