Mukdahan man dies of hypothermia after drinking

A man was found dead in his house in Mukdahan’s Mueang district on Friday morning, apparently suffering from hypothermia.

Somyong Kerdsilp, 45, was found dead on his bed at 7am by his family. He was not wearing a shirt and had not used a blanket.

 

They said Somyong had been drinking and went to bed without first putting his shirt on.

 

A doctor from the Mukdahan Hospital who inspected the scene said the man died about six hours earlier of hypothermia because of the cold weather.

Is it that cold in Mukdahan?

No it isn't, we had a cold snap for a couple of weeks, but I wouldn't have said it was any lower than 15 C at dawn...

I think Thais have suddenly come up with a new excuse for being unable - or unwilling - to investigate anything - Hypothermia 

15C with no blanket or shirt can kill someone in normal health  in about six hours. according to several hypothermia tables. Alcohol consumption will accelerate the development of hypothermia, and at high enough  doses alcohol damages thermoregulation, 

I seem to remember a very recent report on TV of a Thai doctor cautioning against drinking alcohol during the cold snap. It was ridiculed by many TV posters..... 

Happens every year in the North and Isan. 

Too much Lao Khao and left overnight without appropriate cover on temps going South of 20C at night. 

Think I better go easy with the aircon and yes early morn in mukdahan has been yen yen
