One poacher killed, one arrested in clash with forest rangers

A suspected poacher was killed and one arrested after a clash with a forest ranger unit in the western part of the Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary in Kanchanaburi’s Thong Pha Phum district on Saturday (Nov 11).

The incident prompted Chaiwat Limlikit-aksorn, chief of the Phaya Sua Task Force of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department, to fly on a helicopter to the clash site near Ban Huay Suya 1 in Tambon Chalae for inspection.

At the clash site in a dense forest, about 10 kilometres from the Phikhu Forest Protection Unit, a suspected poacher was found lying dead with a gunshot wound in the head.  He was identified as Tewan Bamrungchua, 20.  Another suspect poacher, a Myanmar national called Muser, 35, was arrested.  Another suspect managed to escape.

In South Africa a tough Boer anti poaching commander marched a captured poacher over to a boma holding a particularly pissed off black rhino, handed him back his machete telling him he could take its horn and instructed his men to drop him into it. After the terrified hysterical screaming poacher begged for his life the commander revealed he was only kidding, much to the disappointment of his black fellow rangers.

Note to self;-

Do not cook eggs of any style in a wildlife sanctuary in Thailand.

I think someone just cracked a yoke

Why autopsy?   I want justice but I get so mad.    For poachers of trees or animals they shouldn't waste money.   Why not use helicopter to do patrols rather than fly big wig around.   I read the article but did I miss that they were caught cooking eggs?   Give the sharp shooter a bonus.

The post said that the area was dense forest, so from a helicopter you'd see nothing on the ground.

The second point is that the poachers would hear the helicopter & hide from view, so the arial survellence is pointless & very costly..

If you had the good luck to see someone on the ground you'd then need to put rangers down in the area.. so why not use anti-poaching patrols as they do now, staying silent on the ground, tracking poachers movements!!

Helicopters are very expensive to operate & that would waste money....
