Coffee Beans to the US

Recommended Posts

A good American friend has done me a favor, unrequested and unexpected, I'd like to repay him by sending a pound or two of coffee beans grown near my home.

Before I offer, I thought I better find out whether this is possible and what US postage and import regulations are involved.

I've sent them elsewhere with out a problem.

Technically, probably considered an agricultural product with a host of restrictions and subject to confiscation.

Since the value of a pound or two of beans is relatively low, you could try sending them, making sure to accurately and truthfully describe them on the shipping documents.  As long as you do that, if they are confiscated there is no penalty.

It's when people try to sneak things through that trouble can result.

I contacted US Customs yesterday and it appears there will not be problem.

As you said, I should write on the parcel what the contents are.

They were friendly and helpful and I gave them full marks on their little questionnaire looking for compliments afterwards.
