Suspect re-enacts alleged murder of 4 people in rubber plantation

Prachuap Khiri Khan police yesterday (Nov 30) escorted one of the five suspects to re-enact the murder of a family of four at a rubber plantation in Bang Saphan Noi district of Prachuap Khiri Khan.

 

The suspect identified only as Daeng, an ethnic Mon worker at the plantation, was arrested two days ago and was charged for murder.

 

Police said he and four other Mon workers killed a colleague, Nampol Kamkong, and three of his family members included his wife, 5-year-old daughter and his father, after having engaged in heated quarrel over unpaid debt while they were having a drink party at Nampol’s home on Nov 26.

I hope somebody, somewhere in the Thai administration is making a note of every one of huge number of Thai children who are killed or maimed as a result of adult drinking.

 

I also hope they will consider publishing, on a regular basis, a running total of these child victims of alcohol abuse, together with portraits of the children and comments from their devastated families. A hard-hitting campaign is needed to stir a public conscience clearly unmoved by official pronouncements of regret and empty promises of action.

It puzzles me too. I guess this is how Thai justice works.

In "some other countries" of course this would be considered unacceptable, and unduly influencing the jury, or something like that.

Because they havent yet been found to be guilty of the murders

So how can he re-enact something he may or may not have done?

Mate, I dont want to get into a discussion about what words mean .

You know what the report meant and there is no point getting pedantic about the English language and about whether its perfect English or not

I think the issue here is not semantics but self-incrimination. By demonstrating how one committed a crime one is effectively admitting liability.

This is living in another culture. Justice is not a one size fits all deal. Is there corruption sure, is there a perceived lack of justice sure, but don't forget that justice doesn't work how you want in the west either. In Thailand there is not the same presumption of innocense. A magistrate I know once told me if the police caught you and bright you to court you must be guilty. Otherwise why arrest you?
