Plan is afoot to increase price of gasohol 91 to the same level with gasohol 95

The Energy Business Department will propose Energy Minister Siri Jirapongphan to increase the retail price of gasohol 91 to the same level as the gasohol 95 so that more motorists will switch to gasohol 95 and gasohol 91 will eventually be phased out.

An informed energy source said that two oil trading companies had notified the Energy Business Department that they would stop selling gasohol 91 at their petrol stations, which is in line with the Energy Ministry’s to gradually phase out gasohol 91.

The source said that if the price of gasohol 91 is on par with that of gasohol 95, more motorists would switch to gasohol 95 or E20 which has higher content of ethanol. He added that increased use of E20 will help boost the prices of certain farm products used as raw materials for producing ethanol.

What's the difference between the '91' and '95' versions of this 'gasohol' stuff ?

There's a green sticker on my car (Toyota Vios) when i open the filling cap which says '91' so I've always used 91 in it.

Can I use 95 in this car or do I need to stick with 91 ? I have no idea what it is.

In the UK we call it petrol and you can put whatever they have into the car, I do seem to remember buying the one with the higher number in the UK but it was a much larger and more powerful car.

Seems like a colossal waste of effort.  Just phase out 91 if that is the plan anyway.  Why mess around with selling an inferior product at same price as a superior one ?  Just seems foolish

and then after everyone starts using 95 they will have to lower the price of 91 back down to get rid of the back stock.  Or more likely mix it in with the 95 to get rid of it.

When will they phase out the mucky diesel one wonders and the cars will all run on hot air! Like all the usual pronouncements don't expect it to happen. Remember the big bus 6 month phase out, the pick up trucks with bench seats affair. No idea of the big picture, no forward planning and seems like no talks with manufacturers.

higher octane in 95; i too have a Vios (2011) and the user's manual (i got one in english) says 91+;

i used to use 95 and i now use 91;

i see no difference in performance or mileage;

at the toyota dealer in phitsanulok i asked them if i could use E20 and they said yes;

there has been some chatter that using ethanol-based fuels Can reduce the life of rubber-exposed parts along the fuel delivery system;

credible-sounding sources say that is true for older cars, newer ones are said to be ok

maybe too many people use 91 and the companies want to make more profit from it as they are the ones that will reap in the money if it increases in price, again we see the total lack of logic being used

OK , while here , a mate says he was told to put benzine in his Honda CRF as the engine runs cooler and better.   Is this fact or fiction ?

Fiction, the engine running temperature is set by the radiator valve.

Just about every motorcycle I see at a gas station fills up with Gasohol 91 as to I for my thirteen year old Fortuner. My car is not warranted for E20 so I would have to move to Gasohol 95 which is no problem but I really cannot understand the logic behind such a proposal other than to submit to the major refiners who want to simplify their production.

New car buyers might well switch to diesel versions, where offered, and in the long run Thailand will face more pollution than it has now.

Thanks for that , I made the same comment but I think it has to do with valve seats and combustion temps , I was thinking of putting 100 B of benzine in the Forza just to see if any difference but if Mr Honda says 91 or 95 gasahol then why argue with him ?

I want my benzene.

C6H6. There you go.

Benzine on the other hand is a glorious mix of flammable hydrocarbons used as a fuel.

The main reason the local kids fill up with Gasohol 91, as it is cheaper, you get more for your 50 baht's worth .

.We have 2 Honda Wave ,fule injection motorcycles, I have been told, more than once that Gasohol 95 is better for my engine, although a sticker on my fuel tank says use Gasohol 91.

And yes our old Suzuki  motorcycle ,has had problems with Gasohol fule perishing the rubber fuel lines, same problem on  my grass strimmer.
