Video: Do something about these paragliding cowboys!

Video: Do something about these paragliding cowboys!

Picture: Sanook

Sanook demanded that the authorities act after two men paragliding landed on tourists sunbathing on Koh Lan.

A video showed a large man of Indian appearance with a westerner behind him narrowly miss a power pole then plunge through beach umbrellas onto the tourists below.

One umbrella was damaged though fortunately injuries were only minor.

A Japanese tourist told Sanook that the paragliders should not use that area as it was inappropriate.

Sanook said such accidents happened a lot and the paragliders on this occasion had got the wind direction wrong.

They called on the authorities to reign in the popular "extreme sport".

Those involved in the latest accident were not named.

nearly wipes himself and innocent bystanders out and what's the first thing he does? check his phone. modern life eh.

Sanook are right to demand that these idiots are controlled. They are extremely fortunate that no one was seriously hurt or killed.

just watched the vid, seems these are the unmotorized ones... so at least they are quiet

Paraglider as opposed to Paramotor.

Their jumping off point is up by the temple. They float around for awhile and then look for an open spot on the beach to land. Very stupid to say the least.

'He' was the passenger on the tandem paraglide and was probably editing out his 'I've just pooped my pants' look as the pending 'parasol goosing' became a stronger reality....

The 'Pilot' is a complete tool to attempt a landing in such a busy area of the beach, unless of course this was an emergency landing and he'd been 'blown' way off course in which case weather and prevailing wind conditions were not adequately evaluated before the flight.

IF these sports are to continue in built up areas then there needs to be and adequate number of 'safe' landing zones... the beach is not a safe Landing Zone...  becoming trapped in the rigging under the large sail of a paraglider can easily lead to drowning.

I wish to protest use of the term "cowboys", as cowboys generally know what they are doing in that line of work. I think nitwits would be more apt

Oh my, I do love eye scent of propaganda in the morning. Best you can come up with is a whiny japaniese tourist maybe.... and an accident with little damage. And no outraged cry from the passenger on the paragliding,  no deaths....no serious damage....oh please do come back when you have a real story....Stop crying moral outrage moral outrage, to fan the flames of "hate the different."

It's an Indian, not a cowboy.

I'd prefer a cowboy to an indian.

Safety first huh...haha. Always scammers and scumbags where the tourists are.

That is why it is a good idea to get rid of all the sun loungers!

Which I thought they had done.....

They certainly looked packed in there on Koh Lanta.

Paragliding Idiots avoid death, should be the headline,  as this has nothing to do with Cowboys, and I doubt

that you would even catch a real cowboy paragliding.

Geezer

Landing bottom first on an umbrella pole. Indian Kabbob anyone?

here inpattaya nrth ,the beach chaos is 99% caused by the tour groups  and those employed on the platforms and boats, here on beach rd/freeway the buses start at 7 and are backed up until well after noon ,with all the sellers of sandals to sunglasses chaseing the buses.the lines of asain tourists awaiting the cue to be loaded on a boat ,which are moored sometimes 70+ along the beach from walking st to the dusit hotel (1 mile stretch) the sand now stinks of fuel as the have no regard when refueling on the sand..this has been our morning normal for 3 years now...but the lowbudget tours selling feature is a ''free parasail''..this is a big hit amongst the tourists and its not uncommon to see elderly woman in full berkas ''flying in the sky''...sadly our beach is nothing more than an old HO, that has been pimped out, so long ,no amount of make up and or lipstick will cover the damage done...THAILAND ,WERE NOTHING IS SAFE...
