U.S.Video blocked although VPN on

Featured Replies

Tried VPN locations Canada, Netherlands to watch harmless news video. Plus I tried 2 vpn servers, tunnelbear and turbo vpn. Why blocked?

More important is the question=

Why can contacted site still see from which location the contact request actually comes?

If the site is loading OK, could be your flash is turned off got the site.

Which ISP? Which DNS? Any other sites causing issues? What is the exact message?

I can play videos off the HuffPost website, of their Youtube channel and off their FB page. I'm on AIS Fiber, Bangkok, Google DNS, Chrome.

You should be able to copy and paste a link for others to verify?

Works for me using Ivacy with US server, Canada server and Singapore server, blocked on the Netherlands server, lord only knows why.

Thanks for trying. At least I know I´m not totally wrong, that's enough. Will try other server options.

Works for me just fine. I am using NordVPN. HuffPost is blocked in my region, but being in citizen journalism, I am compelled to keep some tricks up my sleeves. Here's a complete VPN guide that'll help you choose the best VPN for your region.

Works for me and I'm not using any VPN....on AIS Fibre in Bangkok...using Google DNS.

But I will admit "some" HuffPost videos do come up with the region block if not using a VPN--it depends on the particular video.

What I don't understand= selected VPN server Netherlands or whatever ought to hide my true location CNX.

The blocking most certainly was not caused by the Netherlands, much too liberal country. By whom, Thailand?

While "news programs" are less likely to be restrictive with their broadcast content into other regions, some broadcasters have contractual or other restrictions that force them to block their own content being delivered.

If you really wanted to know more you're always free to email the broadcaster and ask. They might even write back. Though if it's a contractual agreement or geographic distribution restriction they may not be specific as to the reasons why (as those usually are considered confidential).

My spider moderator-sense puts you in Zurich for this post.

The blocking is being done by the video provider (geoblocking), no idea why the Netherlands is on their block list when Singapore is not.

Home Depot in the US blocks access from Thailand but not Malaysia or Singapore, weird.

It just like how the movies selection from video streaming services like Netflix can vary so much from country---it's primary due to licensing requirements which vary by country/region.   Like for the Netherlands only 32.5% of the full (US) Netflix movie selection is available...for Thailand 4.6%...for UK 34.5%.   Summary: intellectual property/licensing protection and laws.
