MS Edge scam?

Featured Replies

The other night I had a message on my computer to send my login and password details regarding Edge.

I assumed that it was a scam, and closed my computer straight away.

I have checked the internet and can't find a scam related to that particular message, though loads of Edge virus scams from 2016.

Has anyone else had that message come up?

Thanks.

If you see any strange error message make a screenshot and google the exact wording. That will likely produce some information about what is going on. If you have a screenshot publish it here. That will help to get you "correct" responses.

I take it you do not have a screenshot so let us try some detective work.

What sort of message (these comments apply to all strange messages-just substitute the company/org you use for "edge/Microsoft" etc)

Was it in edge itself if so how did it appear or

In an E-mail in your Microsoft account or in your junk folder or

in a email account NOT connected to your Windows account.

If an email did you look at the senders address.

How were you being asked to "send" your details,  If they said just that you should contact them directly and provide the info through your normal login details then OK

NO reputable company asks you to either fill in the on screen form or ask you to click on a link or ask for personal details unless you have voluntarily logged on to their official site by your usual methods.

Thanks for the responses. No screenshot as I turned computer off straight away in case trying to take computer over. Hasn't come back, so far.

It was an on screen box with 2 spaces to provide username and password and presumably click to send. I was on TVF at the time, using Edge.

I assumed it was a scam. Just wondering if anyone else had seen it.

Far as I know, I don't even have a username and password for Edge. It just came with the OS.
