As a couple we will be traveling back to Thailand in the next few weeks, ny wife is thai and i have spent extensive time in the country previously but I would like some advice?

I use a I phone in the uk and I would like to know the best way of getting mobile & data use in Thailand for our upcoming 2 week visit.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Forget the sim at the airport go to any shopping centre they will have the major telcos in them, i recommend True for mobile after using a few others Ture coverage seems the best, 300b plus sim will get you through your vacation easy, you will need your passport and if you are returning regular True keeps your sim operational up to a certain length of time even without using it.

You can get the same services at the shops at the airport (buy a sim card for 49thb, top it up, book a package of your choice), you just have to insist on it, because by default they will try to sell the overpriced "tourist sims", and at the airport you can at least be sure that the people can speak english.

What Is over priced¿ , I always buy a Sim from ais Around 1000 bht with between 12 / 14 gb in last years.. keeps me occupied in the isaan for 4 weeks

Yes maybe you van get iT cheaper but mostly iT takes a few days to go in to town...

If you use a lot of data you could get 6mbps unlimited data for 30 days for effectively about 650 thb (simcard 49thb + topup 600thb, book package for about 580 thb)

Compared to this 1000thb with just 12/14gb look overpriced. And actually i think it's 1200thb for this and not 1000

And as i mentioned before, you don't have to go to town for this, you can also get this at the shop at the airport, just have to tell them.

Ais http://www.ais.co.th/one-2-call/addon/en/nonstop.html
Scroll to "Internet Non-Stop at speed 6 Mbps" and click on the "right arrow", then you see the monthly package for 550 + vat

True http://packnet.truemoveh.com/campaign/18
they only have thai, but look for this: เน็ต 6 Mbps ไม่อั้น 30 วัน ราคา 550 บาท

Of course you can also use this in an ipad

Looks good indeed, at what shop to buy... or also at the ais stand?

I think there is only one at the airport, the one outside of the arrivals.

If you show them a screenshot of this package they should be able to do everything for you

If the seem too retarded to do this just say you want to buy a simcard for 49 thb, they will sell it to you, put it in your phone and activate it. then you tell them to top up 600thb on this number, and when they have done this you can call the number as shown on the website there to book the package and you are done

You can do it in three ways. You can buy the SIM and 600 baht top up and show them the USSD code as attached below;

They will simply tap it in for you to apply the package and then hand you the SIM to place within your iPad. That's the easiest.

If you already have an AIS 4G SIM in your iPad, then top it up to at least 600 baht and then navigate to this page; http://m.ais.co.th/ontop-package (you can have it ready, saved as a Favourite), clicking on the little EN icon in the top right hand corner to change to English. Then to Special Internet Refill Package and then touching the  550 THB figure to choose the package and then confirm when asked. That's it. The package will be applied without the need to remove the SIM from the iPad.

You can do much the same thing from the link in post #9.

So you have a few entry points.

If you need more speed, DTAC has a 10 Mbps package.

I am in Thailand now. Aid shop wouldn't sell me a non touris t sim. So bought the cheapest. 189 bat. (basically is the same. Sim + some money on it). So then asked to top up with 500.. again she would not.. even after my wife insisted.

so at the same time we received a a SMS with 1 day free 300 MB... ... Called my niece back in korat ... She transferred the money on to the phone...

Then I tried to get the 30 days. 6 MP's with the ussd code... Noting happened.

Tryed for a few times m
Noting. . There was enough credits.. I checked with other ussd code

So I tryed a lower package. 30 days. 4.5 MP's. That worked.
