Report Police Clamp Down on Prostitution to Protect Pattaya’s Image
There are two points this headline made: the first is that they cracked down on Street prostitutes and secondly that this is to benefit Pattaya's image. I believe the first that they crack down on Street prostitution for one night. This is probably so they can make larger bribes from the bars And in an effort to make it look as if they really are doing something. A big flashy show of arresting a bunch of people probably without due process of law. How did they determine that these people were prostitutes? Do the prostitutes have signs saying I'm a prostitute? The police make out, the courts make out, and the poor people trying to make a living are screwed. If they really wanted to do a service to the public, they would give these people an option of taking an HIV test and paying a much much lower fine. You would have to be a complete idiot to not know that there was prostitution in Thailand, as there is in most countries but here it is a much larger industry. So why not lead the world and make the industry legal and license them and require that they get periodic checkups and free medical care to deal with the problems? Why don't they provide this same medical care to prostitutes from other countries that are working here in Thailand? Why not make them give out doxycycline to help stop the spread of STDs? And PrEP? If Pattaya wants to clean up its image, the way to do it is to address the issue as adults not pretend the problem doesn't exist or it exists only to benefit bribes to the police? ..
