radiator coolant

Featured Replies

can anyone recommend a good coolant (Honda Civic 1.8), obviously doesn’t need anti-freeze. Don’t know what the dealer threw in, just wondering what the possible options are..... cheers

Rain/distilled water is ok (actually best for cooling)
but maybe some anti corrosion inhibitors would be useful ?

i’ve read that coolant additive is better, something called ‘metal wetting’, and it also has anti- corrosion additives

I've read that pure h2o is best for cooling..but myself have always used coolant / antifreeze just because of the "supposed" anticorrosion and lubricating prooerties

It is but your engine internals will corrode. Coolant/antifreeze raises the boiling point and inhibits corrosion. Use what Honda suggest ... it will be in your manual. I'll look in mine to see if I can find what you need.

Honda All Season antifreeze/coolant Type 2 it says for our 1.5Turbo ... also seems to say the same stuff for your 1.8

If one does a bit of research then it says that the lower the coolant ratio the better the actual cooling. As In Thailand we don't need the antifreeze protection we can go down to at least 20% coolant / 80% water.
