Picture shows what happened when 800cc bike collided with the back of a turning 10 wheeler

Thai Rath published a picture of the aftermath of a collision between a Kawasaki Z 800 and a truck trailer in Nakon Sawan.

The roadway was covered in bits of smashed motorcycle while by the side of the road was the corpse of 41 year old Niwat Khongdee from Phichit.

He was wearing a helmet but his neck was broken.

The driver of the truck Bunyang Kiawkiang, 54, had left the scene but police found him a kilometer further away. He gave himself up.

He said he had seen a pick-up approaching as he was turning into a corn field.

A bike overtook the pick-up and smashed into the back of his trailer.

The accident happened on the Takfa - Inburi Road before midday on Sunday morning.

Alternative story.

"Driver of lorry pulled across road without indicating or looking for other traffic, then did a runner"

  • Popular Post

When a bike and a truck collides, the truck will win everytime, not saying that

this is the bike fault, but riding a bike one should be switched on a 100 more

that when driving a car....

I do think that it must be BS-day today! If the driver of the truck sees a pickup approaching, and the pickup don´t crash into the truck. Do you not see that as the MC driver that overtakes the pickup must be held responsible for that the road in front of the car he overtakes is free?

One more thing! It´s never okey to overtake another car in places where there is a side road or a crossing.

To sum it all up. I do think that the headline can stay like it is, without any more discussion about that fact.

It seems quite straight forward:

The pick up was approaching the turning truck, the motorcyclist failed to exercise correct judgement, decided to overtake the pick up......and hit the turning truck.

It is of course inconceivable that the motorcyclist swung/popped out from behind the pick up so quickly and at such a high speed that the truck driver could not have seen him until after commencing his maneuver.  Or that the motorcyclist was so far exceeding the speed limit that he didn't have a hope in hell of stopping or avoiding collision. Or that even if the truck had been continuing along the road, without turning, the motorcyclist would have hit it head on.

Perhaps if he had possessed an even bigger bike the motorcyclist would have been able to "power his way out of trouble" (a popular rationalisation for large capacity motorcycle ownership)......or maybe he would have merely ended up in smaller pieces?

Well thanks... Did you recently get "promoted" to a moderator, or just trying to police threads because you are bored ??

Not sure what you are trying to state here. I commented on someones alternative change of headline, with my own opinion.

I hope you do realize, that a forum is a place to voice opinions. Out of reading your comment made up like a question to me I do not have high hopes, though.

However, down to aswering your question to me. No I did not get promoted to moderator, and I was not trying to police the tread.

My advice to you, is to Google the meaning of the word opinion as well as read up on why different forums exist. Have a nice day!

PS Let us not forget that a popular maneuver for motorcycle heroes is to try and pass close around the rear of a vehicle (which they are approaching from the front) which is in mid-turn......and sometimes (especially if the vehicle slows or stops during the turn)..........they get it wrong.

I'll go with that one.

Or bike rider driving too fast unable to see what is ahead dies at scene.

Was doing a fair rate of knots, judging by the pieces.

And a single yellow line?

Speed and inexperience, and a Thai driving a truck. Not a good combinations.

We can all bitch and moan about the truck turning with or without a blinker, and no disrespect to the deceased, but he must have been in warp speed, because any experienced rider of a big bike knows, that when you are in warp speed, if you do hit something, you know that you don't won't to be here when the dust settles, so to speak.

RIP

does not happen in this country

I am not a biker and know very little about them but isn't an 800cc m/b a pretty powerful machine? The fact that the truck was turning and therefore slow most of the KE would have been in the bike...and judging by the debris it had a lot of KE.

Kawasaki Z800’s go like stink, a very rapid bike and very dangerous in the wrong hands.

My take is that the driver saw a pickup approaching from behind, not in front. The bike then overtook the pickup without seeing that the lorry was making a turn.

Actually, K.E.=1/2 m v squared. I'm pretty sure regardless of speed differentials, large moving trucks always have more kinetic energy than motorcycles.

Still that seems like a lack of care for your own life, right?

This story hasn't anything to do with brake failures only with brain failures.

About like a Toyota Vios car with 450 horsepower.  Not quite as powerful as a Ferrari 458 Italia.

Having driven many oversized and overweight oilfield rigs I can attest to the tomfoolery of the general motoring public in somehow "assuming" that everyone else, myself included, can not only stop on a dime but also have the preternatural ability to read their idiotic lizard-brained intentions.  Motorcyclists, here in Thailand in particular, are especially "gifted" with the stupid gene.  The more CC's between their legs seems to have a direct correlation to the diminished CC's between their ears.

Obviously but the truck was going in the same direction as the bike not towards the bike.

You actually believe anything a Thai says after an accident?

We do not need to speculate anything on such cases. Nothing was going to happen if the bike was going at safe speed but face is important in this place. Too bad!
