Question for an unusual scenario

Recommended Posts

A Thai lady, age 46, is married to a British man age 66.  They married in Bangkok and have certificate etc. He is receiving the UK state pension.  Unfortunately he is in a hospital in Thailand with a terminal illness and only has a few months left to live.

My question is would the Thai lady be entitled to receive any UK benefits after her husband passes away? If so how would she go about claiming them?

I'm asking this because they are friends and he is no longer in a position to any research himself.

She may be entitled to a bereavement allowance

( 2000 Sterling ) ? but I don't think the pension he receives now. The pension will stop when he dies.

Google Pension service newcastle uk. They are easy to talk to. You will need to know your friends NI number full name DOB etc.

They will probably not release personal details but if you ask the right questions they wiĺl help.

i think now  even the bereavement allowance  has been terminated   for those who live abroad in non alliance countries certainly no continuation of the pension

You are probably correct on that. I wasn't sure but as you say 'non-alliance' is the key phrase.

The only difference might be if someones non UK wife had worked legally in UK for a while, 6 years minimum? she may be entitled to something.

Newcastle office contact is the best bet.
