Medical Specialists Pinned List

Recommended Posts

The pinned list of medical professionals in this forum is overdue an update, if anyone has recommendations about medical professionals (in Greater Chiang Mai only) who they think deserve to be included, please let me know. Similarly, if anyone has had a poor first-hand experience of any professional on the list perhaps you will also let me know - please remember the very strict libel laws in Thailand when expressing dissatisfaction with medical staff, your post will get deleted if you go too far with any criticism so please keep it acceptable to the wider audience. The rules for adding or deleting entries from the list include recommendations from several different sources over time. Thanks in advance.

Also, we're looking for new family doctors, general practitioners anywhere in the greater Chiang Mai area and was wondering who people are recommending these days - there are a couple of GP's on the pinned list but we're looking for new additions:

From the pinned list:

Plastic Surgeon Dr. Somboon Chaisrisawadisuk is practicing at Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai. I recommend General Surgeon Dr. Ekacai Paiboonworachat at CM Ram, had a good experience with him. For Dermatology,

Dr. Chatbongkoch Khemacheewakul at the new CM Ram Skin Clinic. Neurologist Dr. Dollaporn Yuvasilp at BKK-CM Hospital, very good communication.

Thanks, Dr Somboon still has his own clinic but I'll update his record to reflect his hours at Bangkok Hospital.

Yes, medical specialists include dentists, as seen by dentists on the pinned list.

I used to use HCMC, but after a few unsatisfied visits I started using http://www.cmmediclinic.com/

I hope this is not just another farang husband inspired western business model but I'll keep an open mind and look forward to reading other reports about them.

Well, found the topic ...

https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/965551-recommended-doctors-and-medical-specialists-updated-2017/

but it is not pinned on the Chiang Mai Forum

Might want to have that done, then I will post my favs.

I posted it in the OP, did you not see it, perhaps look back at the OP at the top of the page.

And yes, it is indeed pinned in the Chiang Mai Forum and has been so for the past five years.

I have been seeing Dr. Morgan at HCMC for almost 6 years and never had a problem. I am a former pre-med student (many years ago) and I learned enough to make me very picky about who I choose for medical care. Dr. Morgan and her staff tick all the boxes.

As for CM Mediclinic, I have also used their services on one occasion. Facilities were clean and orderly - looked very recently done. Staff was competent and spoke English well. Front desk was manned by a youngish Western guy - no idea if he had any medical training. The doctor I saw was competent and efficient. She looked fairly young so my guess is that she had been practicing for 5 years or less but that is only a guess. No staff that I saw other than the two of them. Was there about an hour and only saw 2 other patients - one when I arrived and another as I was leaving. As for location, HCMC on Hang Dong Road is much easier to find. CMMC is located on one of the streets in the Wat Jet Yod area and takes a bit of navigating to find.

For ongoing care, I'll stick with Dr. Morgan's clinic but CM Mediclinic should be ok as well.

Thanks, as said we're looking for new family doctors rather than ones that already exist on the pinned list, in that respect your comments regarding CM Mediclinic are helpful.

Just a gentle reminder for any of you that have used medical facilities in Chiang Mai over the past year:

Actually, I have one:

The CMU Outreach Medical centre, located on the CMU campus near to Sriphat and Suan Doc/Mahraj does health exams at very sensible prices and their blood testing lab. is certified and accredited. It's a system of mix and match, pick the blood tests you want have done and then add to it a series of tests such as chest X-ray or ultrasound scan of the abdomen etc., all told a full-blown health exam for over 55's comes in around 5,500 baht. Walk in only, no appointments, next day results.

And I have a second one!

Not strictly within the remit of the pinned list but essential related info. nevertheless:

The pharmacy opposite McCormick Hospital is one of the better stocked pharmacies I've seen anywhere in Thailand and their prices continue to be the lowest of any I have seen in Chiang Mai, at any point in time there is some ten staff serving customers. I believe they may be capable of being beaten pricewise by a CMU based pharmacy near Suan Dok but since that's not my side of town I continue to use the one mentioned - useful perhaps for people who don't want to cross town for their meds.

It seems there's not a great deal of interest in updating the list which is OK with me but I am curious as to why, possible options include:

The list is about as complete as it can be and there's hardly any updates needed, there's very little turnover;

Fewer resident expat members to provide input, a higher proportion of overseas and transient members;

Fewer people getting sick;

Fewer more mature posters replaced by a younger crowd who don't really use the medical system that much;

People can't be bothered to provide input;

All of the above to some degree.

I would have thought that with the opening of Bangkok Hospital that there would have been a few doctors to add to the list but it seems not, perhaps not many posters are using that hospital (apart from Nancy). Never mind, I'll store the couple of changes shown above until some point in the future when it may once again be appropriate to do an update.

I'm happy for the mods. to close this thread.

Make it a Pinned Topic all its own, so people can find it, not buried in a topic with other stuff.

I don't know what you see when you open the Chiang Mai Forum but what everyone else sees at the top of the page is a series of pinned topics with green dots in front of them, one of which says, "medical services" - the very next one on the list reads, "Medical Specialists Pinned List", nobody (apart from you) really cares whether the list is truly pinned or whether it is linked but we do (and always have) refer to it as the pinned list! If folks can't find the list from those clues they don't deserve to find it at all, even worse they probably shouldn't own technology period. And I have to add that yours is the first comment of this nature since we first put the list together and published it in 2012. Since that time hundreds of posters have managed to find the list, nobody (except you) has complained they couldn't find it, not one single poster, not even a ten-year-old and the list has been hived off and copied by numerous other websites!

Is that the Payap University pharmacy or the Dara Pharmacy? They are both across the street, but Payap pharmacy is directly across the street. Dara has an amazing stock and had very good prices until they remodeled....now the customers are paying for the remodel.

I was thinking of the Dara Pharmacy, their prices on the things that I buy are still very good indeed. I have found a small pharmacy in the Maejo market which is even cheaper still but doesn't have anywhere near the stock.

Thanks. I've heard of the Pharmacy at Mae Jo Market having good prices but was never sure which one it was as there are about 4 of them right near each other.

As you're facing the market, West I suppose it would be, the one on the far left at the end of the covered stalls is small but inexpensive. The larger one, just North of the 7/11 is my regular supplier these days and is also inexpensive. BTW when I refer to the Maejo Market I mean the one at the North end of Maejo, just past the pedestrian overpass.

The problem is the maintenance of the pinned list, which was pinned a few years ago by the locally-resident TV moderator/administrator who apparently is no more to be heard (which is a definite loss to us all).

Anyway, again: the maintenance of the list is an onerous task.  Up to a point it is, IMHO, a good list, but times do change as do physician (and hospital) details.  There is, IMHO, one bias,  in the number of references to Rajavej Hospital staff.  This simply reflects, for better or worse, the list originator's personal experience.  Nonetheless, Simon 1490 does absolutely deserve many thanks and respect from us all for his efforts over the years.

Bottom line:  Still lots of good references but out-of-date.  So, the question is open?  Toss it or keep it up to date.  It needs a very hardworking moderator!

Phamacy and pharmacy costs deserve their own thread.  SO MUCH variation and differences in location and stock.

The inclusion of Rajavej doctors was an attempt to strengthen the list and to provide more choice, I personally use Rajavej for only simple mechanical tasks and have yet to encounter a doctor there that impresses me - I have slowly but surely reduced the number of Rajavej doctors on the list, simply as a result of the lack of reinforcement that they deserve to be there. I'm happy that we let the list decay since the demographics of TVF have changed over the past couple of years, the result being the need for the list is less acute than it was say seven years ago.

For Psychology my coworker at our international school just opened a private practice. She is Thai- American, bi-lingual and has an MS in Clinical Psychology from Johns Hopkins. A great addition to mental health services in Chiang Mai.

I have had excellent service for 5 years from HCMC and would be very happy to recommend Dr Morgan even if her husband does come from Merthyr Tydfil.

He was referring to another clinic....
