Bangkok governor Pol Gen Asawin Kwanmuang has decided to connect CCTV cameras from the private sector to improve coverage in the city.

The project will be rolled out first in Pahonyothin Road Sois 5-7 that is a busy area in Phayathai district.

Private cameras will be connected to the BMA's central command post in the area of the Giant Swing.

Asawin told the media that at present the Bangkok authority has a total of 53,249 cameras in the city. Of these 14,845 are connected to the central command.

The rest are stand alone cameras.

He said that many cameras are old or of poor quality and that replacing them would cost too much and be too slow.

So he is working with the private sector to ensure that the police and authorities have extra eyes and ears, reported Daily News.

Following the trial in Phayathai the project is expected to be expanded elsewhere in the capital.

Looks like someone has a relative that wants to get into the trough.....outsourcing from any sector of the Thai admin, usually ends in failure after all the funds have gone

Private sector buys things that work.  We all know what the public sector buys and why.   How much does the private sector want to help the public sector would be the question, as we all know the public sector does not really work for the public at all.

...another 'cash cow'....

...cameras cannot replace law enforcement...

...and a great way to have no party to lay the blame on for the 99% (?) failure rate in solving crimes...
