Most rockets in Western attacks on Syria were intercepted - Russia

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's defence ministry said on Saturday that the majority of missiles fired during the overnight attack on Syria by U.S., British and French forces were intercepted by Syrian government air defence systems, TASS news agency reported.

Russia, an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has responded angrily to the strikes, while Syrian state media called them a "flagrant violation of international law."

More than 100 missiles were fired from ships and manned aircraft, and the allies struck three of Syria's main chemical weapons facilities, U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Joseph Dunford said.

According to Interfax news agency, Russia's defence ministry also said that Syria intercepted the U.S. and allied attacks using Soviet-produced hardware, including the Buk missile system.

The Putin-bots are out with their fake news again.

  • Russian propaganda.   Other news sources report  out of over 100 cruise missiles  13 were shot down.  That also was from Russia.  The US UK and France has made no reports on what was lost.

including the Buk missile system.

This proofed well against a civilian plane.

But against a myriad of rockets?

Sound like a bad joke.

Sky news this morning said the US would issue an update some time after 2100hrs here.

Of course Russia & Syria would say that.  Whether it's true or not remains to be seen.

I also don't believe it...how many rockets can that growler get at the same time? I reckon the US knows exactly how many it can get at one moment so they just double/triple that amount and they will hit target.

is bombing people really the best form of enlightenment and education?  Is that why the US has so many school shootings?

Trump tweeted, anticipated targets had 48 hours to relocate personnel. So far appears to be infrastructure damage, minimal human casualties reported. Also US informed Russians of airspace to be used by Western forces.

Between a rock and a hard place, Assad repeatedly deployed chemicals to kill / injure civilians sheltering from airstrikes. Whether this limited attack will act as a deterrent on future chemical attacks by Assad when trying to retake other areas is currently an open question.

How many times have we all seen a boxer smile to try to say he was not phased or injured  by the last punch?

I'd say no to both questions

A cruise missile is not rocket powered so the headline is BS....

And Vice Versa and we will never know. Both sides Lie, Lie and Lie again.  Ordinary citizens are, and will be, clueless.  Personally I think it's a set-up of collusion, obfuscation and skulduggery.

Every time Syria begins to 'win' (as it certainly has) something 'happens' to warrant bombing. WHY would Assad do this?  what's to be gained?  and why is this in the USA's, France or UK's interest?  ignore the 500,000 killed by conventional weapons but go all-out bombing over 75 alleged chemical deaths?

Except, of course, that the Assad regime isn't beginning to win. It's been winning for a few years already..

According to news reports, great efforts were made to minimize bombing of people

Bombs before proof seems to be the way these days. Whatever happened to the UN?  and the rule of International LAW.

Exactly.

His bombs can’t reach them so he resorts to chemical weapons which seep underground where they’re hiding.

Including woman and children.

This city is a big prize for him.

Nothing at all happened to the UN. It's still the same powerless and wasteful organization it has always been.

With a straight face?

SO what other explanation do you have for the US penchant for school shootings?

Or is it like the rising of the sun, the phases of the moon, or is the US government like King Canute no more able to prevent school shootings than the flowing or ebbing of the tide?

When they can control gunmen on university campuses, maybe they can turn their skills to chemical weapons in the Middle East

From your post, it seems it's worth a shilling.
