I have a visa extension that is going to expire on April 30. I bought a re-entry and went on holiday to my country. I normally will be back in bkk on April 29. I plan to get a new passport because my current one is going to expire in one year. My question is if i get a new passport and a new visa from my home and get back to thailand without any husle from the immigration? So i wont use the re entry anymore? Can i expect trouble at bkk airport if i do that?

No, you won't have any problem. New passport, with a visa; plain sailing.

Will the new passport be automatically linked to your old passport by the IO when you arrive ?

If not, would it do any good to hand him the "old" passport after the new one ?

I ask since online 90 day report has worked for me the last two winters here and I wonder if a new passport automatically locks your out from doing your first 90 day report on the new passport

You could do the report online but your local office might not approve it.

Jomtien ?

I don't know.

You could try to do the report. If denied then you would have to go into the office.

Can ubonjoe confirm that using a new visa and passport will be no problem even the old one re-entry permit is still valid ? ( 2 days validity)

No problem when you enter the country with only your new passport and a non-o visa in it.

Thanks so much for your input ubonjoe. I might make a copy of the new contract from school in case they ask me what i am doing in the country. Thanks again indeed

Is your contract for teaching or for studying?

If your extension of stay expiring on April 30 is for employment and your work permit has not been cancelled, you could use the re-entry permit in the old passport to enter on April 29 and then apply for a new extension on April 30, but perhaps the school cannot get the paperwork for it ready in time.

I just received  a non o visa on my new passport. They messed up the type of visa and they misspelled my name. I showed them before leaving the embassy and they used pen to change my name and type of visa. Everywhere they made change they stamped on it. Is there any chance that i can be in trouble at bkk airport?

I just want to inform everybody that i used my new non o visa and entered Thailand by Suvarnabhum airport without any hassles. The immigration officer didn't even ask me to show 20k. It was very fast and smooth. Thanks to everyone who responded to this post. Cheers....
