A British man is in police custody after allegedly kicking his wife to death in fit of rage at a house in Ubon Ratchathani.

Kevin Smitham, 51, reportedly beat his wife Kanda, 29, after he refused to have sex with him and he accused her of having an affair, Banmuang reported.

Locals said that they heard the pair arguing around 10pm on Sunday evening.

However, it wasn’t until the next morning when a local monk found the body of Ms Kanda outside the property in Det Udom district.

Smitham reportedly admitted the attack, telling police he pushed his wife to the ground, before stamping on her twice and strangling her. He then dragged her body outside, covered it with a blanket and left it there until it was discovered on Monday morning.

Despite admitting the attack he said he did not mean to kill his wife.

The couple are reportedly residents of Pattaya and have three children together.

They had been visiting Ms Kanda’s relatives in Ubon Ratchathani during Songkran.

According to her Facebook page, Kanda Smitham ran a popular fitness Facebook page with more than 28,000 followers.

If you're married to a attractive person 22 years younger than you, paranoia is going to be pretty much a constant.   Maybe she was cheating, maybe she wasn't. Still, no reason to kill her.

RIP Lady.

The perpetrator should get the maximum he deserves + more.

I hope this guy rots in jail for what he has done.

Some people seem to think he should get what he deserves and more, why more ?

Surely what he deserves is enough ?

It's a good job he had no drugs or he would really be in trouble. 5 to 10 years max.

For the record this bastard deserves the worst Thailand can throw at him.. and so does anyone else who commits murder. No need to be a Brit brasher for that.. just someone who hates murderers.

I agree 100% with your first paragraph...and there will likely be more posters complaining as to why his nationality was mentioned!

I think people will find this unusually high violence for a westerner, so will not attribute to any cultural failings. Perhaps the man has gone native.

Well i for one do not bash Thais, or any other nationality come to that, so you can't aim that one at me.

I don't find it high violence at al for a foreigner, we are capable of the same violence as Thais.. kicking a girl in the head.. strangling her. I think foreigners should be reminded that wherever you come from there will be always scum like this and should stop judging Thais based on their scum. Just like I don't hold the Brits responsible for this scum or the Dutch for the pedo guy.

I often watch documentaries, and believe me whatever country you choose there are always animals like this.

Not aiming at you at all.. there is just a huge discrepancy between comments on crimes committed by Thais and those same crimes done by foreigners.

It's the children I feel sorry for. Lost their mother, and soon the father.

Im sure she did not expect him to kill her.

Reading in the BKK post he expected her to have sex with her whenever he wanted.. at least it states in that article he became angry that she did not want to have sex with him and then he kicked her in the head.

I'm a Brit, and  I say throw the book at him. The poor wife murdered because she 'refused to have sex'. Every woman has the right to say NO. Just because you are married doesn't give you ownership of her body, or some special right, in any way whatsoever.

Tragic for the kids. They have now effectively lost mum and dad in one hit.

I see the frustration in many people with a local wife, but terrible to see such frustration grow to this point.

Kevin Smitham, 51, reportedly beat his wife Kanda, 29, after he refused to have sex with him and he accused her of having an affair, Banmuang reported.

I assume it's misspelled and his wife was a woman. Accusing her of having an affair with another man, doesn't mean that she had one.

Smitham reportedly admitted the attack, telling police he pushed his wife to the ground, before stamping on her twice and strangling her. He then dragged her body outside, covered it with a blanket and left it there until it was discovered on Monday morning.

"Pushed her to the ground, stamping on her twice and strangling her." But he wasn't trying to kill her?

What a sad and unnecessary death of a Thai woman. He should get what he deserves. RIP>

Issan Girl, English Guy, Pattaya, Sex, Death. Sounds all too familiar. Whatever socio economic class you choose to marry into in Thailand becomes your socio economic class in the eyes of the Thai Society. As long as you continue to financially service the contract you will be tolerated. The moral of the story is like real estate in Thailand, ~ Why buy when you can rent and always get the best socio economic location location location in that of a Thai wife who is the same socio economic and possibly education level as you Farang. With every Thai Woman you consider ask yoursel what is the reason she doesn't have a well to do Thai husband of the same or higher socio economic level as you. It's all about face, lifestyle and money for the Thai Girl so adopt the same means test for them as they have for you . Find a girl who doesn't need or want your money that is considered desirablee by the Thai Male counterparts. She needs her own house, car and money to even qualify OK. This is the Thai way. Thainess, after all you are in Thailand, so when in Thailand do like a Thai Man does. Like if it has kids, do not except as the Thai manual says something about damaged goods and a ten foot pole. Same goes for Issan Bar Girls. Short Time only, no ?

Why did he marry her and what was he expecting in return ?

I think its standard to say after a murder that he was not trying to kill her. I mean its the standard it was an accident excuse that you see used here by many Thai males.. now a foreigner does it... we are not that different. Once in trouble everyone lies to get out of trouble.. few really fes up to it.

But its sad to see this happening.

I was more talking about how people were judged and how they always blame culture if its a Thai but when its a foreigner nobody mentions culture as then your attacking your own culture.. and that is not done of course.

Anyway happy to see so many here condemning the guy.  (normal to do so IMHO)

I accept that every woman has the right to say NO, hence the huge numbers of rapes reported. I am not sure about Thai law, but is it a crime for a man to rape his legal wife ? Of course rape is an act of violence but better than murder where there are three offspring involved
