The decomposing body of a baby girl was found on a canal bank being chewed by a monitor lizard in Chachoengsao’s Bang Pakong district on Tuesday, local police said.

Kanissorn Chanthapakhao, 12, told police that he had noticed a monitor lizard pulling the body from under the high-platform rented house of Wanchai Piarin, 39, while he was walking along the canal in Moo 6 village, Tambon Thakham.

The boy alerted Wanchai, who chased the lizard away and called police.

The body, which had been partially eaten, was sent for an autopsy to Chachoengsao Hospital.

Doctors believe the baby was one to two months old and died about two days ago.

The canal is home to many monitor lizards.

A shocking story, so sad. There need to be more “baby hatches” at fire stations and hospitals.

There are thousands of couples in America with deep monetary resources who would stand literally, on their heads to adopt a Thai baby. Unfortunately concerns of so-called “human trafficking” make international adoption almost impossible these days

Culturally difficult to bring up a child outside their “home zone”... many many failed attempts, very few real success stories....

I am not sure that there are not many success stories. In the US foreign adoptions have been very common and include children from Africa, Korea, and many other countries. I personally know of half a dozen success stories and zero failed attempts. Putting a kid in a loving home that wants the child is always better than an orphanage or state run facility (in my opinion).

The monitor lizard just followed its instinct, as sad as it is. The much more shocking aspect is, a one to two months old baby must have been missing somewhere for two or more days and no one filed a police report. Looks like another case of: "if I don't want it, I dump it".

Rubbish. Babies don’t have much culture.

Korea used to be a poor country.

Back in college I banged a Korean “orphan” who grew up in a California farming town. 100 percent All-American. I can guarantee you she was perfectly “well developed” in all the important areas.

I'd say it beats being killed and then partially eaten by a monitor lizard....
