Owners of karaoke bar arrested for allegedly selling under-age sex

Interior Ministry officials raided a karaoke bar in Saraburi province on Friday night and arrested two owners for allegedly providing sex service by minor migrants.

 

Officials led by Ronarong Supsiri, director of the suppression division of the Provincial Administration Department, searched the shop in Kaeng Koi district at 9.30pm.

 

The raid was carried out following s complaint by Lift International, an NGO caring for migrants, that the Ruay Mak Karaoke had migrants aged under 18 sell sex services.

 

The officials found that six migrant women were working as hostesses and one of them was 17 years old.

 

The two shop owners have been arrested and charged with operating an entertainment venue without licence. Officials have yet to interrogate the six migrants before deciding whether to charge the shop owners with human trafficking.

Surely the "Officials" should be interrogating  the owners and interviewing the poor migrants as they build a case of Human Trafficking ?

 

Burn the place down and jail the operators for life.

 

Does anyone in Thailand have a licence to operate a bar/club/hostel etc etc?

Jailing for life? Sentencing is not my profession and I am not qualified to determine who goes where and for how long. In my past life, I arrested suspects and left the rest to those entrusted to handle such matters.

False papers? Forced to work there or not? Maybe the owners were forced at gunpoint by VIPs. Let's hear the facts, if possible.

Surprisingly not many posters on this  -  but I can't resist   -   17 or 18 is hardly "Underage" by any countries or societies standards.  Kids are having sex a lot younger than that, a country enacts laws that they think are designed to "protect" children, 17/18 years old is hardly a child - notwithstanding a father will disagree, the girl will always be his 'baby'.  Sex at an early age is not proven to ruin anyones life, I lost my virginity when I was 10 to a girl that was 13 in 1963.  I didn;t turn out so bad, neither did she, she became a State Alderwoman (senator).  I was an American soldier in the Netherlands, in 1982 - the age of consent was 14, we didn't have a bunch of 14 yo's lining up to have sex with us, (we wouldn't have done it anyway) the Dutch govt decided that a girl or boy at age 14 was old enough to decide what they wanted to do with their body. Just saying.

18 is the minimum age for paid-for sex in almost every country. There is no "consent" if it's prostitution.

Wow. The law is clear  on the age at which a minor is allowed to work in these places. That's the obvious fact and the law is common in the developed world.

 

Your attempt to excuse the act is  sad, and  creepy. Equating the sexual acts  of 10 and 13 year old  children with the coerced sexual acts of a karaoke is nonsensical. 

A well adjusted 17 year old minor does not willingly  have  sexual relations with older men found in  these karaokes. These older men typically slimey and sleazy. Younger males do not go to karaokes with the intent of  having sex with minors because they can  get action without paying. The women who work in these karaokes  usually have one or more of the following sociodemographic characteristics;

- Impoverished and uneducated, i.e. their poverty is exploited.

- In debt

- Have  a drug addiction

- Mentally ill.

 

Again, I state, normal well adjusted women (and men) do not prostitute themselves in these places.
