OK, I get it.

You don't rate him. That's fair enough.

Let's not turn this thread into a long and drawn out debate over an actor's prowess.

We can agree to disagree and get back to discussing movies and TV.

Absolutely,

Movie - In Order of Disappearance

Really enjoyed this one.
You will recognise the lead actor Stellan Skarsgård from the excellent series River.
Has subs for those interested.

IMDB: The honorable citizen Nils ploughs snow in the wild winter mountains of Norway, when his son is mistakenly murdered.
Nils takes action, which ignites a war between the vegan gangster "the Count" and the Serbian mafia boss Papa.

On 25 March 2015, Jeremy Clarkson was informed by the BBC that his contract would not be renewed following an incident between him and a producer. Following Clarkson's departure, his co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May, announced, along with Andy Wilman, that they would not return to the show without him, instead working alongside Clarkson to produce a new motoring series that would later be known as The Grand Tour.

The Grand Tour is a British motoring television series for Amazon video presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May and produced by Andy Wilman.

Captive - A really strong start to this one by Netflix.

Summary: Season 1 of Captive consists of eight freestanding episodes about captives, each one set in a different country and centered on a specific hostage situation. In the two instalments Netflix provided for review, "Lucasville" and "The Cola Kidnap," we get a full-scale look inside a prison riot and a financially motivated kidnapping, respectively. While the tales vary in length and format, each one sets out to understand every aspect of a given capture.

Been waiting for ages for this series to arrive with hard-coded English subs.

Five series in total with series 1, 8 episodes available now.

Summary: After the cold blood murder of Francois Paoli, a notorious Corsican mobster, Sandra Paoli, his niece, takes over
the reign of violence, money, drug and sex in a world of it's own.

Will27, How do you find time to watch everything? I struggle with less than 10% of your volume :)

Since the demise of CTH, I don't have a satellite dish now so just download everything.

I don't usually watch TV in the daytime so do have a bit of a backlog.

Even though it doesn't seem like it, I'm reasonably selective in what I watch.

There's nowt so queer as folk.

My Missus does that with movies she's not sure about... FFwd.. play... FFwd.. play then if she likes it she'll watch it from the start again.

but in the Philippines it seems the norm to turn up at the cinema 1/2 way through the film then cycle around until you've seen the start!

Saw 2 films I liked a lot -

 Time Crimes (2007)

Los cronocrímenes (original title)
(Spanish)

and

Predestination (2014).
(USA)

Both Sci-Fi, although IMDB calls the first " Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi "
and the second "Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi ".

Sifted thru a number of other sci-fi/time travel but these were the ones I'd recommend.

Tonite found a film I've been waiting eagerly for -

Graduation (2016)
Bacalaureat (original title)
(Romanian)

Directed and Written by Cristian Mungiu , director/writer of the masterpiece of Romanian New Wave Cinema, "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" (2007).

Not up to "4...3...2..." (although few films are) , but totally absorbing from the 1st minute thru the end.

I find Romanian New Wave to offer some of the best/most interesting films of this century.
Love the aesthetic choices of this movement (similar to the Dogme 95 movement) and some other directors who follow similar aesthetics such as the Dardenne brothers (Belgian).

Shut Eye

If I don't care for a series or a film, I usually won't bother writing about it. However...Shut Eye, from Hulu is a special case. I watched all ten episodes because the writing seemed fresh and original, and I had hopes that at least one of the main players might do a moral turnaround. That didn't happen. Give it credit in having just enough suspenseful twists to hold my interest.

This show is as close to pornography as anything I've ever seen on "premium cable." The only thing missing was an appearance by Porno SuperStar Ron Jeremy, but I guess he's now too old for such work. At least, with his dark looks, he might pass as Roma, unlike most of the actors on this show, particularly Isabella Rossellini as the GodMom of the Marks Clan. Ridiculous.

The depiction of the Roma community (once called 'gypsies') is unflattering, to say the least. I'm sure that community, which has battled oppression everywhere, will be mightily offended by their portrayal here.

If you're looking for lots of ultra-violence, gratuitous sex, and non-stop cons and double crosses, this might be for you. I didn't save it for a second viewing, and won't be waiting for its sequel.

I thought the first 15 minutes was ordinary but really enjoyed it after that.

Was also good to see Aussie actor Angus Sampson getting a major role.

The Passenger

Enjoyed this 6 part series from France.
Has embedded subs.

Summary: Captain Anaïs Chatelet, a head-strong police detective in Bordeaux, heads up a team that tries to solve a series of mythological murders which appear to have ramifications both at home, in her father's past as well as a big local multinational active in chemical weapons. Her investigation leads her to tackle along with a psychiatrist who helped her first suspect suffering from amnesia.

Couldn't find a trailer with subs.

It's screener season and yet no joy at the moment. Wonder if there will be any this year or early next year? Last year was headline news with the cm8 hive dvrscrs but this year nothing. Seems Hollywood has finally put an end to this. Maybe its time to head off to the local theaters this Christmas instead of sat a home watching it on your small screen.
