I'm looking for a laptop for browsing the Internet and basic video editing for YouTube.

I've only ever had chromebook and iPads, haven't touched anything Windows in a very long time but from what I understand, chromebooks are pretty much garbage for video editing.

I prefer small laptops or notebooks, between 11 and 13 inch screen size.

It's really frustrating as I just keep hearing that budget laptops (£200 to £350) are great for Internet and documents and movies but not so good for video editing. Seems like if you want a fast smooth experience editing videos then you have to spend a over £500.

Also looked at newer iPads but I'm not sure as they are also expensive and are basically just big phones.

Checkout the 11.6" Dell Inspiron 3000 series 2-in-1 that has 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM. I use this as my travel laptop for batch processing photos from my 24mp fullframe camera (ie... pics are not small). I also use cloud services and a 3TB USB HDD for extra space.

350 Pounds is about 15000 Baht.

I assume you live in Thailand and want to buy here?

I used Lazada, limit 15000 Baht.

As an example"

buys you a Dell notebook, i3 CPU, 15.6 inch ( 1366x768) with 4GB RAM, 1 TB disk, Intel® HD Graphics 520.

Sure this is not top notch, especially the 1366x768 is a bit poor for video editing.

But CPU and on-board graphics should do "basic video editing".

I don't need to tell you that a desktop system would buy you more power for the money.

But you need the mobility?

I poked through some other offers and it seems that you will be limited to an i3 and 1368*768 for that price (350 GBP~15000 THB).

Neither the 14/15 inch screens nor the resolution would satisfy me for video editing.

+1 on a desktop, ex company branded models are pretty cheap.  You could also buy a second ipad or basic laptop for web browsing.

The i3 would do your head in for video processing work.

Well, I wanted to answer your question before going off topic:

Budget needs to be raised to the £500 range in order to get a laptop that has a decent CPU (i5~i7), GPU and more RAM (4GB at a minimum). Also need to consider looking at 15" screens because they normally add better resolution.

However, I will agree with others. If you do not "NEED" a laptop, a desktop (minus the monitor) will provide better video processing capabilities for the same price.

I'm currently back in the UK recovering from an illness, thanks for the tips, I just brought a laptop today and I think I got a decent deal

It's a second hand used Lenovo Ideapad 320s, 14 inches, Intel i3,

4gb ram, 128gb SSD,  Windows 10,  1920x1080 display, for £250

Sound isn't that great I'll admit but it seems quick and I'm liking it so far, hopefully it edits videos well.

With all due respect, you don't appear to have looked very closely at the latest iPad offerings.

I'm aware that the new iPad and especially the iPad Pro is very good and powerful devices and they have imovie which I would love to have but they are very expensive and they don't have SD card slots, I'd have to pay extra for a keyboard if I wanted one, I think I prefer laptops over tablets.

I am glad you finally got your laptop of choice.

I don't think this laptop is great for video editing, the fan gets loud when I try to do basic editing with a video taken on my smartphone, and the video itself isn't smooth, I'll just buy a decent smartphone with a good camera like an iPhone older model or Samsung galaxy s7 and make videos on the phone, as its just easier and I'm very familiar with iMovie and remember how simple and easy it was.

So you ended up with an obsloete processor, tiny ssd, and too little ram in a used machine to process video?

Why?

Sigh.

cheap machines don't lend themselves to video editing any better than 3D-design or quantum physics sadly.  In other news- tractors are really shit at formula 1.
