BANGKOK — It’s Friday evening and the commute home is more exhausting than the actual work week. Slogging toward an overpass, a random car creeps from behind and swoops in up ahead, extending the traffic infinity war even longer.

Now those lane cutters better watch out.

Ok.. So its good that the Traffic Police are doing some policing work... well, ok, letting technology do the policing work for them - its still a step in the right direction... lane jumpers do slow down the flow and exacerbate traffic woes.

However, far too little time and effort is being spent on red light jumpers, a favorite Thai past time which contributes significantly to Thailands RTA toll.... Yes its good that something is being done, but this seems to show a lack of awareness of the more real and significant issues.... or at least it shows a level of apathy towards them one can only shake their head at.....

I wonder if the have these cameras installed in expressways?? just along the Phloenchit Rama 4 exit towards Bangna / Pratunam a lot of dangerous lane changers with long white solid lines for 3 lanes and they don't use their side mirror when they do it LOL

Same on the Chalon Rat expressway near Central Festival. The lane weavers completely ignore the sold white line stretches, including the very big signs saying don't do it or you'll be fined, and are oblivious to the presence of any other road user.

Do they know the meaning of the solid white line or they just got away with buying their license? I am positive this is in the written exam for drivers. ;)

If there is a problem with lane changing causing problems, then the road needs improvement because it is congested. That is not the motorists fault and they should not be fined for it. In order to resolve the problem in the meantime, plastic lane barriers should be erected to prevent lane change, problem solved. Then do real traffic policing with the high speed inside lane cutting up on motorways. The most useful advance would be to run government advertisements showing Thai drivers how to be tolerant and polite while concatenating and anticipatin on the road. Advert showing how to change lanes properly ie not on the LHS as they did in the UK and Ireland before they made the driving test far more rigerous. Fining people for the government not providing the road facilities they are being paid for is not the answer. The government make a great deal of money from car tax and road tax, I do not see it translated into better and more roads.
