Locals helped rescue teams and firefighters after a driver crashed his Chevrolet pick-up on the way to Roi-Et in Thailand's north east yesterday morning.

Adisak Namkhot, 31, could be heard screaming for help trapped in his overturned vehicle as flames erupted.

Firefighters and locals managed to extinguish the flames and the driver was extricated from the cab after about 15 minutes.

He had passed out due to smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital with burns. He is out of danger.

The accident happened in Hua Chang sub-district near a hardware store owned by Somsak Sornsaeng, 54, who called the nearby fire teams and rescue organization who were quickly on the scene to help Somsak.

TNA said it was likely that the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

what a cesspool the roads here are; if i could detect what thai drivers are thinking, or more likely, the lack thereof, i would never drive here again

I think too much and haven't done a long (whole day) trip for long.

Always flying as possible.

Only unavoidable shopping trips in the 120 km radius.

In Thailand you can loose any fun in driving.

So true. The roads are generally pretty good and there isn't a massive amount of traffic around much of the time if you are anywhere out of a town or city. But the standard of driving makes any journey a lottery and it is impossible to enjoy driving when you have to be on your guard for every second. It's a bit like Thailand having so many beautiful women but many have little else to interest an educated foreigner apart from their looks (lack of curiosity, lack of education, childish mentality). Always a downside.... ☹️☹️☹️
