The Thai man who miraculously survived being crushed by a container truck that overturned outside Bangkok has been talking to reporters from the hospital where he is recovering.

The truck reportedly carrying soybeans crushed a Toyota Fortuner in Pracha Wattana Road in Lat Krabang on Sunday.

Inside was Worawut Youyatmark, 42, a foreman for Thai Airways in charge of food and beverage for international flights at Suvarnabhumi airport.

Speaking at Wipharam Hospital with his thankful wife Lamun, 39, by his side, Worawut told a story of the practical and the mystical that led to his survival.

He said that he saw the truck begin to overturn ahead and immediately applied his brakes.

He decided quickly that the best thing he could do was shift his body to the left and place his head on the arm rest. He credited the fact that he has done a personal survival training course for his quick and appropriate thinking.

Seconds later everything went dark and he knew what had happened. He was trapped but otherwise very much alive.

Calls came into his car asking his name and how many people were inside.

He gave the answers and yelled out for his wife. She arrived after about twenty minutes to give her encouragement.

But it was almost two and a half hours before he was cut free. However, he never felt he would die.

Worawut said that Saturday was his wife's birthday and yesterday was his own birthday.

He was on his way to a Thai Airways seminar in Cha-Am and had a feeling that something was going to happen. He was dressed all in black.

On a hunch that he needed extra protection he took off his usual amulet and wore some magic jewelry around his waist.

The religious jewelry was a present from his grandfather on his wedding day and had been handed down through his family for generations.

Despite his car being crushed beyond all recognition Worawut survived with only minor injuries.

And that is what saved his life, quick thinking, not magic and amulets, but it will be tough trying to convince some locals of that.

Thailand in a nutshell ..you cant argue with magic

You can try, but they'll do a Tina Turner - put a spell on you.

Anybody know if they could salvage any pieces of the registration plate or the serial number of the car. Waiting at my local lottery vendor right now! Quick answers would be much appreciated. By the way, I have my most powerful three amulets on me at the same time. Don´t worry. Nothing can go wrong.

You really show your westerner's bad faith when it is obvious that it is thanks to those amulets that he managed to think so quickly and so well :whistling: Pfffffff
