Can't throw outdated equipment out

Featured Replies

I am in Isaan. I have a desk computer monitor, a desk computer lacking a hard drive (fan might be useful), sleeves for CD's, old speakers, blank Princo CD's, that I'd like to give away. A couple years ago a truck came through our area and bought electronics we were no longer using. I don't want to sell this stuff but I don't want to put it in the garbage pick-up either. Does anybody know of someone picking stuff like this up? Or some place in Khorat where I could drop it off?

Thanks.

In my place in BKK, I'd put it out near the street and there's a 99% chance it will be gone the next morning.   (Of course, that works better if there's traffic to see the goodies...)

I'm amazed at the efficiency of the recycling apparatus here in LOS.

If it's still there the next morning, then I'd start looking.

Good idea. Thanks.

Put it out with a sign saying

'for sale 500 baht'

It will just disappear in about 5 minutes.

And there is none anymore?

Here the scrap dealers come by every other day.

There are some specialized in electronics stuff/white goods driving in pickups and announcing by loudspeaker.

Can you ask neighbors?

I do that too. They can actually be quite picky about what they take too - especially if it's used clothing LOL.

I also have a problem with old computer stuff. My cupboards are full of it. It's not that I don't know what to do with it, but I just can't bring myself to throw it out LOL. I always think I'll use it one day, but of course, that day never comes...

If you're anything like me, you'll remember those times when you saved a few bucks (or, in Thailand, hours and hours of searching the markets) going to my stash when I needed an eclectic component.  And just as likely to recall those times when I needed a component that I had binned just before I needed it, and had to spend hours scrounging the local markets looking for a replacement.

Still, it's probably time to bin those 2 meg RAM chips, 16 meg USB sticks, and that 640x480 digital camera...
