snoop1130
Thailand to spend billions on satellites from unknown company By Teeranai Charuvastra, Staff Reporter Marketing visualization of a satellite network by commercial space firm SpaceX. It is similar to one Thailand has committed upward of 64 billion baht to invest in by a virtually unheard of company. Image: SpaceX BANGKOK — In a presentation that would put a glimmer in the eye of any James Bond villain, officials spell out the capabilities of a future satellite system to blanket the entire planet in unceasing surveillance. The network of 112 satellites, called the Theia Satellite Network, are said to bear high-tech cameras with radar and infrared optics that see through clouds, darkness, foliage and even the surface of the earth. A massive 1.47 petabytes of information will be sent back to earth on a daily basis. The slideshow ends with a bold – and ominous – declaration. Popular Post Misterwhisper
Global surveillance 24/7/365... the Thai dunces just couldn't resist signing up pronto-pronto upon hearing that (and also because otherwise Theia's gracious invitation "would go to the Philippines"). Oh, and the satellite network would of course "only be used for civilian purposes such as searching for resource deposits..." according to the Defense Technology Institute, the signee. The first Thai payment will hopefully be used by the company to finally set up a decent website, probably under the URL www.theia.hoax and prominently featuring how easily they managed to suck 2 billion bucks from a Third World country's gullible and inept military junta. James Bond stuff, indeed! 5 1
Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK
No, we have no plan to use this technology for spying on our own people. But that's exactly what we will use it for, if and when it ever becomes a reality. So please do not imagine things and distort facts to cause misunderstanding by the people... Popular Post greeneking
I have a dream where a young, forward thinking party overwhelms the efforts to keep the dinosaurs in power. It cancels the dishonest constitution and makes forensic accounting a priority. Preferably from outside agencies. Part of a recognition Thailand can learn a great deal from abroad. Confiscation of suspicious assets will take place pending investigations. I know..............

stud858
There is way too much money stock piled from government income in the likes of VAT and income taxes that it needs to be got rid of. otherwise commoners will start to get wise to the rich. This way life continues on peacefully. it's all about peace.
Popular Post Bundooman
So let me get this straight together with some other wandering thoughts: Thailand is going to pay 63 Billion Baht for a world wide surveillance satellite system from an unknown, as yet, company called Theia. The said unknown company has yet to launch even one satellite. they haven't even got a web site. The Thai government isn't going to pay for it, the public sector is going to do that. The public sector means: The Thai people who pay taxes. The surveillance system will not be used to spy on the Thai people. It will be used to search for underground deposits of oil, etc. The yet to be discovered deposits of oil, etc., are obviously worth trillions of Baht in order to justify the initial cost of discovering them. The initial cost doesn't appear to include upgrades or maintenance. (Well, it wasn't mentioned....?) Does this as yet 'unknown' company have any Thai shareholders and if so, who are they? Presumably, while secretly undertaking this enormously expensive project, a full transparency programme has been initiated to explain to the Thai public why Thailand actually needs this system? Have the submarines, tanks, jet fighters, the high speed train service and police guns already been paid for? Where are the submarines, tanks , jet fighters and the high speed train, rail and infrastructure and police guns at this precise moment? How many billions have been set aside for the projected control and successful government guidance of the proposed election next year? How many billions have been earmarked for the potential flooding of Bangkok and other regions in Thailand that are likely to need assistance if the weather patterns continue as they are at present - through to October/November? Where is all this money coming from? Are all Thais now paying back-dated income tax, as yet unpaid? I guess I may just have to wonder at these fantastic plans and ideas and governance........ 5
