PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN — Seven people died Monday after a truck crashed into a car and a pickup truck outside Prachuap Khiri Khan city.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the truck – running on southbound roadside – lost control as the driver took a sudden turn to avoid colliding against another vehicle, slid into the northbound side and crashed into the car before hitting the pickup truck shortly before 7am.

A six-wheel truck collided with an SUV in Prachuap Khiri Khan on Monday morning, killing both drivers and five passengers.

Bang Saphan district police were summoned to Phetakasem Road at 6.45am and found the multiple fatalities, including truck driver Chakkraphan Naksak, 25.

His wife riding with him was severely injured and taken to the district hospital.

Police determined that the driver of a pickup in front of the truck lost control and Chakkraphan swerved to avoid it, crossing the road island and striking the SUV.

The SUV driver and all five passengers were killed.

Yes car drivers here first reaction is to swerve rather than pump the brakes to avoid swerving or fish tailing...

if you swerve and then the brakes, high probability of lost vehicle control and Crossing over other lanes or running into trees or power poles....

would had been better to hit the car ahead as both were traveling the same direction and semi would have had better chance of control (breaking) and avoided oncoming traffic...

Isn't that what ABS is for?

We passed a pick up yesterday near Chiang Rai with at least 20 people standing in the back and god knows how many in the cab. A disaster waiting to happen if ever there was.

Seen it so many times, even close to home, they always swerve and never brake straight, which causes unnecessary loss of innocent lives .

Thai people do nit know what brake are for the same as wing mirrors think they are for show

hit the vehicle ahead, speed difference and impact might only be 30/40 kph ,  head-on impact speed could be double that or more.

I know it's pedantic but shouldn't the title be truck crash kills seven?

     Or truck crash kills seven?

So rather than rear ending the pick up truck that lost control, he opted to hit the income SUV vehicule... what an idiot!

He should have bumped the pick up truck out of the way and be on his merry way! Poor sense of judgement on a critical moment.

No matter what! Thailand still remains on top of the statistics when it comes to road carnage! Obviously the good general, his bag man (Sutep) and his illegal government do not care so long as the corruption monies roll in! (check the audits on his and the "watch" man's wealth). Those lower in the food chain still rake in their share and too <deleted>#& with the rest of us!

Thaskin was a saint as compared with this lot!

This BS will never end!

Thai driving lessons? Where? 99/44% of Thai drivers learn on-the-job. Most don't have a clue what the ABS is designed for. Swerving to avoid crashing into vehicle in front results in changing lane position, meeting on-coming vehicles at an angle or meeting local flora.

I think everybody agrees here the Thai driving standard is poor and the police are just as poor It just will go on and on

As Thailand seems unable to tackle the issue, should they not get some consultants or experts from abroad to assess the flaws within the context ?

How many more deaths, before any (honest) action is taken, other then  with Police Road Blocks having the sole goal to harass or extort money from foreigners.
