Trivia:  In an interview with "Briggo":

Is it true that you were also called in to teach Steve McQueen how to slide a speedway bike?

I tried to, but Steve and his friends couldn’t do it. They needed time. It’s not that hard, and you could actually teach a monkey to do it, but it’s completely different to riding any other motorcycle. I took Steve, Bruce Brown (creator of hit movie On Any Sunday) and Roger DeCoster (five-time World MX Champion) to a small Californian track to let them have a go. It was a laugh! I was in shorts and T-shirt and did a couple of laps to show what to do. We only had one steel shoe so they were arguing about who would get that most of the time. In the end they all fell off, losing the front, but it was still a lot of fun.

Briggo invented the dirt deflector that you see on today's bikes.  Way back, it was pretty dusty.

No, don't go back down the engine turning rabbit hole!

(Though, at least this one puts the engine in engine turning.)

I remember going down to Bristol , in England , to have a look at the new Yamaha WR 400 2-Trak at Fowlers. it had an advantage in sand - not my favourite medium - but the extra weight of about 8 KG counteracted its advantage elsewhere. The front wheel got up to 10% power.

In 1970, Ivan Mauger had already won the 1968 and 1969 world championships.  Two American businessmen promised that if he won three in a row then they would gold plate his winning bike.  He did, and they did...

Indeed .. the few contributors to this thread all have one thing in common ..

We all like things with an engine so you'll find bikes , planes , cars , trucks and even tanks within it ..

There is never any baiting or animosity here .. we all get on perfectly well and the administrators never have a problem with it so we'll leave it at that shall we ..

Yeah, it was discussed a while back, but well worth another look.  He used two cylinders off one of the engines of a crashed Mosquito, if I remember rightly.

Italjet Dragster, with forkless front suspension.  They're still making them, and announced limited editions of 125 and 200cc variants last year - only 499 of each.  Their release date has been postponed to this year due to Covid, but all have been presold.

I can remember watching  this on TV, Barry Briggs in heat 5 of the world championship ,come off the bike and lost any index finger ,got his hand caught in the other falling bikes back wheel ,but being Briggo made a come back.

After this all rear wheels  were boxed in on speedway bikes to prevent this happening again ,at the time he was almost a hero of mine rode for Swindon speedway team  at the time ,a great rider.

This bike was made for singles only. She never asks for money, shuts up when times get tight and does all he wants. And she's never asking for any jewelry or other expensive items.

The commentary on the video indicates that the other rider beside him may have deliberately center-punched him, causing this.  They were all very aggressive back then, but didn't have a good way of replaying film to see what happened in fine detail.  Speedway is still rough, but the real pros now seem to be very professional when the going gets rough.  Not a complete free-for-all.  Look back at the old days in speedway and board track racing and see the number of casualties.  Nor just the riders, but the spectators they killed. Same is true of older auto races.

How'd you like to take that for a cruise down a rutted wagon road? Absolutely bone jarringly Flintstonian.

Also gonna be a bit of a stretch getting the knee down in the corners.
