October 15, 20196 yr Popular Post This was up before but is a nice homage to a Vincent .. and the XV lump is the nearest out of Japan to resemble a Vincent engine .. which is why they are sought after by bike builders ..

But that is a P/U bottom end. However, the bike has some nicely done, UNUSUAL touches. The weird timing cover with extension piece, the use of a front half unit primary cover, with a pre unit rear half - very neat, Jap 6 spring clutch. I like the colour details and contrast on the rims and front brake. Stored pics in my computer files, ta. According to their site: The Kestrel started as the unit engine of a 1970 Triumph Bonneville, which was cut in half & re-engineered. With the exception of a few critical pieces everything – including the frame, front forks, gas & oil tanks, exhausts, handlebars, levers, even the cylinders – was fabricated in-house.

Sorry, i'm looking at the pics, but i don't see it. I don't understand the fwd extension on the timing cover, as i can't see anything externally being driven from it. The rear extension to the timing cover could be a modified electric start ES timing cover driving a mag possibly? And even if it was a unit once, why? I mean, i'm one to talk, to this day i don't think any one has ever put an all iron 8 stud top end on a unit bottom end, but there was a method to my madness.... I'll have a look at their website later. Cheers. Edit. So i just looked at their hipster clever website. I repeat, W H Y ? You are correct, it is a 70 unit motor with the box band sawed off. Then one off alloy CNC machined barrels made (why?). Then a unit timing cover fabricated to look like a P/U one. Why? I could go on, and on, but it'll make me look like a d##k, so i won't. Nice bike....

October 17, 20196 yr Popular Post The carrier operated Hawker Seafury .. Not as well known as some of the other WW2 darlings this was by the hand of Sid' Camm who designed the Typhoon which is why there are similarities from the wings back t'wixt the Fury and Tiffy .. What makes this unusual for a Brit' fighter was the Bristol Centaurus 18 banger radial engine over the Typhoon's Napier Sabre 24 cyl .. Radials are generally more complicated to build and bigger ones more prone to overheating than more conventional engines and Brit designers always seemed to prefer liquid cooled Vee lumps .. that makes this plane the only British fighter of that time I can think of that had a radial .. but it obviously worked as the Fury ended the war as one of the fastest piston engined planes at 460 mph .. it was also heavily armed with four 20 mm auto cannons plus the usual array of direct fire rockets and bombs that they were all kitted with by then ..

October 21, 20196 yr 4 hours ago, Randell said: Sorry fellas I screwed up this is the bike in question and why the plenum? As Mogandave has already mentioned it could be a catalytic converter .. The bike looks like it may have fuel injection and if that is the case and it is a " closed loop " system then a cat' and lambda sensor are needed to monitor and clean up the emissions output .. But could possibly be just following the latest fashion of a collector silencer with short exit pipe/stub .. Buells had something not dissimilar for yrs though the Bu' silencer looked like it had been nicked offa truck ..
